Favourite Film Quotes

What’s your favourite line from a film? Two that spring to mind are-

“It’s called Life, son. You might laugh at it now, but one day it’ll make you cry” (John Mills in The Family Way)

And of course-

“He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!” (Monty Python, Life of Brian)

As TV last night was bad, I watched Iron Man. Slightly diverts from the Marvel comic days but a reasonable film I suppose – if you like the Spider/Super/Bat stuff. Two quotes that tickled me were when Pepper is telling the blond reporter that she “Often takes out the trash” and then, when he first escapes the cave and allows the baddies to shoot at him….”My Turn” had me giggling.

Full Metal jacket

I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture, and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill.

Bad Santa….

Generally gross and not too funny IMHO BUT – one classic which I’ve used a few times at work since:

“You wish? Well, tell you what, you wish on one hand and S**T on the other and you tell me which hand fills up first”

Sigourney Weaver, Alien series:
“I don’t know which species is worse. You don’t see them *******each other over for a ******* percentage.”
“You can’t stop it. It’s inevitable.”

Bill Paxton’s “knives, nukes” speech in the Director’s Cut of Aliens. Pure hilarity.

Also from ‘Aliens’

Bill Paxton (Hudson): “Hey Vasquez, Have you ever been mistaken for a man?”
Jeanette Goldstein (Vasquez): “No, have you?”

Drake: They ain’t paying us enough for this, man.
Dietrich: Not enough to have to wake up to your face, Drake.
Drake: What? Is that a joke?
Dietrich: Oh, I wish it were.

A facehugger trapped in a stasis tube tries unsuccessfully to attack Burke
Hicks: Looks like love at first sight to me. Oh, he likes you, Burke!

Bishop: In nineteen minutes, this area’s gonna be a cloud of vapour the size of Nebraska.

Two Russian KGB types, becoming enlightened in Firefox:
-Perhaps he intends a close inspection of the MiG-31?
-He cannot be here for that.

Harrison Ford, K-19:
“Without me, you are nothing. Without you, I am nothing.”

Don Rickles, Kelly’s Heroes:
“Maybe the guy’s a Republican.”

Various guys, Predator (how did these not come up yet?):
“If it bleeds, we can kill it.”
“GET TO THE CHOPPER!”

Anything out of Tom Cruise’s mouth in Tropic Thunder, that was his best role EVER.

Sigourney Weaver, Alien series:

I have a lot of favorite film quotes but this one usually comes to mind the first thing I read the title thread: “Why don’t you date a pitbull?”. Reese Witherspoon rehearsed that quote on her role of Elizabeth Masterson in the movie “Just Like Heaven”.

“From this day, till the ending of the world, we in it shall be remembered. We lucky few, we band of brothers.

For he who today, sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother”.

Not really from a film as such but from “Band of Brothers”.

Nice speech, but then that little known writer of plays William Shakespeare penned the original version for “Henry The 5th” over 300 years ago!

WF

Oops someone beat me to it, but don’t let that put you off looking up the original text; it really is a great speech.

Its from Henry V but it was used as the title for the book and the miniseries

‘Well, well, well, well. I’m here to tell you that life as you knew it has ended. You all may as well go into town tonight. You may as well laugh and make fools out of yourselves. Rub your pathetic little peckers against your honeys or stick it in a knothole in the fence but whatever it is, get rid of it. Because at 0600 tomorrow your ass is mine’ Clint Eastwood – Heartbreak Ridge

‘Mr. Ambassador, you have nearly a hundred naval vessels operating in the North Atlantic right now. Your aircraft has dropped enough sonar buoys so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet. Now, shall we dispense with the bull?’ Richard Jordan – Hunt for the Red October
