What is your favourite holiday place? I like the US – Los Angeles to be precise, Sydney, New Zealand, London, Finland, Paris and Belgium (Brussels, Brugge, Oostende, Antwerp). The only Belgian place I’m not keen on is Gent (or Ghent). Belgium is superb, ignore all the stereotypes about it being boring, ignore the weather, concentrate on the food (best seafood in Europe, best waffles in the world) and the drink (the ultimate beer destination bar none) and you will never be disappointed with it. The people are friendly as well.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-04-02 AT 06:51 AM (GMT)]Have been to Malaysia myself a couple of times, love the food, hate the weather…as for all these newest/tallest/best infrastucture (do I detect a bit of an inferiority complex here??? ;)), that has nothing to do with making Malaysia a nice holiday destination (for anything less than a week, I really can’t bear the weather), it’s the people and the food which do it for me.
I personally prefer holidays a bit closer to home. Just hopping in a car and heading down the coast with a carload of mates and a boot-load (or trunk-load for you Americans) of beer is my idea of a nice holiday. Fairhaven has one of the most beautiful and best beaches in Australia, IMHO, if a bit chilly :).
I would like to go to Europe one day, everybody raves about it, Tibet and Japan are also on my list of places I want to visit.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
Malaysia is the best spot in SEA cause we offer the best of Asia in one small package. We have the most modern airport in the world(KLIA),the tallest building in the world(with skybridge)PETRONAS TWIN TOWER,world biggest perhistoric cave(Mulu cave),world oldest rainforest with amazing flora and fauna. We are multiracial(malay, chinesse, indian, eurasian, iban, dayak, kadazan…etc)and practice various religion and cultures. If you are into historical things,we have extensive sites from the days of the Malay kingdom,Portugese,Dutch and British. Our beaches are one of the best in the region+islands which offer amazing diving sites like Sipadan/Ligitan(do not worry, the armed forces have some 5000 men to guard those places)Shopping is a bliss cause our exchange rates are on your side(eg.1euro=RM 3.5)and this means that you could spend more.Tech. is very advance here,we have extensive transport systems such as STAR LRT,PUTRA LRT(subway),KTM KOMUTER,MONORAIL,and the recently launched ERL high speed train.Above all i personally recommend Malaysia as your holiday destination cause Malaysia is truly Asia.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
Gent is weird!!! No other word for it. People are great though, especially the woman who got our tram tickets for us because the ticket machine was all in Dutch. On the way into the centre from Gent Sint Pieter’s station we passed really dingy buildings and shops with coffins as the window displays. The shops in Gent are poorly stocked, it is nearly impossible to get good beer there.
I would love to visit the Ardennes. If Blankenberg is such a dump I will avoid it. The best thing about Gent is the fact that it has a vet school!!

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
My favourite place is definately Florida! Love everything about the place. Going again two weeks on Friday 🙂 🙂
I am a huge fan of the US, did a tour around the west once (LA, San Fran, Vegas and Scottsdale)which was excellent, but not really keen on New York, maybe it was the wrong time just before the millenium, but it was far too busy (took 3 hours to go 5 miles in a bus!).
Closer to home I like Malta and Lanzarote and I was very impressed with Majorca, very nice if you stay away from Magaluf.
Basically anywhere is better than being at home in the dull, expensive, rubbish tip thats called the UK!

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
Cheers people (those who are not fans of gent, Belgium.) I’m going there next Easter (music tour thing…)
well…my fav. destination would have to be Greece. I have been to Kos twice and loved it. sun, food, inhabitants…great time. I found spain (Tenerife, Menorca) slightly too britainised…or prepared for the tourists. They were very nice though, dont get me wrong.
However, I am sure that my fav. would switch to places such as Hong Kong, New Zealand, Dom. Republic and especially Australia…once the funds can stretch!
Regards
Ben

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
I like France, which has a lot of wonderful places, any town of France.
But I´ve been to the Netherlands this year and I love that place, not only Amsterdam (which is the best city I´ve never seen) but all the country.
For those of you who just came to Spain for the beach: Visit other places, this country has a lot of different regions, the north, extremadura, galicia, etc.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
Anywhere in the mountains, coz my skin burns easily in the sun and in India we get enuff heat.
In India I love Himachal, preferably Dharamshala ( where the Dalai Lama lives in exile) and Kasauli. Kerela is amazingly beautiful.
The most beautiful landscapes in Western Europe have to be in Germany ( atleast what I have seen of Europe), apart from that I love Italy and London ( the capital of the world ).
Would love to visit Australia and NZ. AND I MUST DO THE SU-30 fly by in mother Russia.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
London is great, but I like wandering around all of the UK. I really liked Cambridge when I was there. I lived just down the road in this pretty (all stone enclosed and stone building) town called Oundle. (SW of Peterborough). I would love to have a summer house in a little area not far from Oxford called “The Barringtons”. Beautiful area. I like Scotland a lot too. (more than a few generations back my moms side were “Lowlanders”. No sheep herding jokes please) The people in Scotland are really nice.
I like Florida in the Winter; Key Biscane ( nice and quiet )
I like Scotsdale and Phoenix Arizonia,
North of San Diego on the coast La Costa etc. Palm Springs, Las Vegas, the desert country is really nice.
Manhatten NY has always been close to my heart and would love to have a house in Connecticut. (quick train ride to NY) yet less than a days drive to some of the most beautiful places in Maine.
My home state Michigan ( Macinac Island ) The movie “Somewhere in Time” doesn’t really show how nice that island is. Also north to Soo Ste. Marie Michigan. When I was little I was to ships what Arthur is to plane spotting. All kinds of ships from around the world go through the the locks that far north to get grain from Minnesota.
At the locks in Soo Ste Marie you can sit in this nice park and watch these ships not 30 yards from you go through the locks. Its a nice area. Anyway thats my travel log for now. Too bad Japan is so expensive. Can’t recommend northern Honshu enough. It is beautiful. I would love to go their again. So the short answer would be all these places are good.

The Caribbean is great: Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are both fantastic places and I’ve been to Dom Rep 3 times and Jamaica once.
However, Barcelona is great for a short city break and is only a 90 minute flight from here in London.
I’m not too keen on the Costa Del Sol etc. especially in Summer when it becomes overcrowded with package holiday people!

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-04-02 AT 06:53 PM (GMT)]Best places : Royal Natal, Drakensbergen, RSA (Tendelee)
France (Provence, Ardeche)
Belgian Ardennes
Worst places: Benidorm, I hate beach-vacations,
Blankenbergen (Belgian coast)
Comet, you’re right. Gent sucks. That’s why I don’t want to study over there next year. Leuven is a much nicer town. Antwerp is my favourite.

Anywhere a bit off the beaten trail. I wanted to check out Lebanon this Xmas, but my fiance wants to stay in London (she’s an Aussie and she’s never seen our wondrous capital city).
The whole area southern-central Africa is superb (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana).
US is too full of yanks, if you get my drift!

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
I don´t like holidays, I prefer travelling to countries I don´t know or cruising. I don´t get on plane to go to a beach. I have more than 300 at easy reach by car. In any case, I love the UK, Germany, Italy , France or any other European country where I had friends to visit. And of course London.

RE: Favourite Holiday Destination
My favourite holiday destination is France.I go to France around 3 times a year so easy to get over there from here, nice food and scenery and goods makes it a really great place. We seem to keep around Normandy/Bretenge regions as there are some lovely ports and towns around there. In cancale you get great seafood and St.Malo is a beautiful walled town with bars, shops and restraunts great for a summer day trip.
I’ve been interested to go around the Balkan regions for a holiday though parents still think its a dangerous place which kind of annoys me as Croatia ect look like beautiful places. Also I would love to go around Georgia/Moldova/Armenia area as i am pretty interested to see the way of life and in those eastern countries
