Ok, so we’ve had what music do you hate, so now it’s time for what music do you like, or what is your favourite song? I know this question has been asked before, but there are many new members, and also new music is coming out all the time, so it is never outdated.
Here are some of mine –
Rhapsody In Blue.
Planets.
Early to mid-eighties pop (not the late eighties with Stock, Aitken and Waterman, Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, they ruined pop.)
Simon and Garfunkel – especially “The Boxer”, really brings back memories for me that song does, I used it to back footage I’d taken of Sabena aircraft, and I now think of it as the “Sabena Song”.
Likewise with Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” for VLM.

Haha, indeed Rick de Leeuw. Don’t know what he’s doing here, but I think he tries to pretend himself as the “Dutch opinion”, much like that guy from Noordkaap does in the Netherlands. Do you know the song “Belgie” from “het goede doel”. Tomorrow it’s going to be national holiday, I can already hear it on the radio. Also liked “Doe Maar” and Herman Brood, sad though the latter jumped from a building :D. BTW, the guy from dEUS, Tom Barman, just produced his first movie (Anyway the wind blows). Maybe worth a little trip to Belgium with the misses, cause I’ve heard it’s quite good.

That was either an SA-9 or SA-13 in Behind Enemy Lines. If it was on a wheeled launcher it would be an SA-9, tracked is SA-13.

Mk9,
There were two good things about Behind Enemy Lines:
– A very, very persistant SA-8 which after lots of turning & burning shot down an F/A-18F (the movie could have had a happy ending right there)
– The song you mentioned.
Benjamin,
I think Swedish Designer Drugs was played quite a bit on Dutch public radio and the alternative-ish commercial radio, but indeed i picked it up primarily from listening to Belgian radio, I must say that Belgian radio is nice to listen to – and even while i don’t like listening to Donna, about a year ago they had an advert in movie theatres… die was echt geil!
I think quite a few Belgian artists don’t get the international acclaim they deserve. I really think Gorki is excellent and definately beats the crap of all the current dutch-language rock groups we have up here (as you might know, the Trรถckener Kecks no longer exists – it seems Rick de Leeuw is becoming a VRT talkshow host?).
But other Belgian stuff was really great too. Front 242 was really innovative back then, dEUS is still great, and the amount of punk bands coming out of Belgium… even those which sucked didn’t get all pretentious like those ones from up here.
Manu Chao is great. I know he’s too much of a commie ******* for a semi-fascist redneck cowboy like you :D, but he’s a lot of fun to listen to. The energy of a live concert of him is incredible, and at least you should respect the guy for sampling his own work. Mano Negra was indeed more fun and less politics, definately a plus for them… and while we’re at it, what about Les Negresses Vertes?
PS: got a speeding ticket today i owe to the Cecilia Ann intro…

Well Arthur, I really think we could hapilly live together. Apart from being a Pixies-fan myself (bought the Bossanova CD as you suggested, liked the Cecilia Ann intro very much), Daan is also pretty good. It’s a pitty this wonderful belgian artist didn’t go international, I’m even supprised you ever heard of him in Holland. Is it perhaps because you often listen to Belgian radio-channels?
Well, here’s my taste.
1. Pixies
2. Dandy Warhols (Get off!!!! rules)
3. Blur
But man, I’d hoped you would also hate that Mano Chao crap. I did like his earlier stuff (Mano Negra).

GREAT song!
I’ve got a live cut of the song played somewhere in England. Animal gets on stage and sings while Metallica plays the music. Great stuff.

The Pixies are the only band which i think to have the complete works from, including two bootlegs.
Apart from that: way broad taste. The question which music i didn’t like was definately easier to answer.
