Favourite warbird colour scheme

Time for a bit of fun, methinks, since someone mentioned on the Firefly thread about a certain aircraft having one of their favourite colour schemes.

What’s yours and why? Provide a pic if poss!

My favourite colour scheme has to be PL965’s ‘PRU pink’ scheme. I know it’s not strictly authentic, being a bit too bright for proper PRU pink Spits, but it REALLY stood out from the camouflage lot on the flightline at Duxford’s Battle of Britain show! 😀

Close second is PL983 in her BofB scheme, leftover from filming Piece of Cake back in 1988.

Like the schemes guys, (even those Mustangs! 😉 ) Incidentally, the Glad is my wife’s fave (and one of mine – lovely) due to the scheme.

MH434 in the civil scheme is one of my favourites too.
I’ve got a plan around here somewhere for an R/C one. That would be different.

I did add the smiley face at the end of my post so not to be too serious. Not my intention.
I wish we still had that trio in those colours still displaying at airshows.

Black Night,

You are taking me too seriously. 🙂

I was quite close to Spencer and G-FIRE from the day we first inspected the ‘starter kit’ at Strathallan in February 1979.

The Spitfire, Hunter & the Seafury were all the same colour and livery. I would have to say from memory and the multitude of shots I took of the Spitfire, that your Seafury posting does look to have been ‘saturation enhanced’ by a factor.

The Seafury, if memory serves me, was ex Mike LLewellyn’s back garden and prior to that the second and lesser of the two at the defunct Southend Museum.

It did look like quite a task initially to get it in the air and I remember some wag had made a special sign for Spencer’s workshop door at Elstree, it read – ‘Project Mayfly’.

Favourite paint scheme

Hi all,my favourite would have to be Fury 115(G-BTTA to those in the U.K.)Awesome aircraft to be around ‘in the flesh’.I was impressed with its subsequent paintjobs ref previous posted pics by LAHARVE.Just out of interest, the centre section of G-FURY ended up in Darwin in very poor cond after its crash and was used as a source of spares for the 3 Furies rebuilt here.
Cheers,Pete

It was surely never as ‘red’ as this.

A touch of the ‘paintshops’ there I suspect or perhaps a trick of the light?

I never actually saw G-FURY & would suspect that the photo was taken in good lighting. It is worth pointing out that red is THE worst colour of all and unless polished weekly, the pigment is drawn out of it causing it to fade. I would suspect this photo was taken soon after the paintjob was completed as i think it flew around for a season without the white cheatline extending past the exhausts. I would expect a good painter to have given the whole thing a severe polishing once finished.:D

The well publicised multi thousand pound court case last year over the Tempest dig started with a ‘spat’ over a couple of ‘copyright’ photos published from a previous dig.

Point taken! 😮

If you are going to re-post my photos – no problem, but please credit the originator as posted, in this case Mike Hooks.

We run right up to the edge on copyright on this forum and sometimes just over.

In my experience it is the lack of credit rather than the commercial loss that starts the ‘trouble’. 😉

Mark

I confess! But you know what my memory is like for things like that! 🙁

You rotten lot! What a question to ask. How can a guy choose just one favourite when there have been so many? This has to be one of mine.

As others have said, very difficult to choose. My favourites among the non-military schemes have to be the Rolls-Royce Spitfire 14 in its turquoise/white scheme, and Tim Davies’s Spitfire 9 in the blue / white / silver scheme.
