Well, I would like to contribute to the lively discussion by saying that this concept, if put into production, would result in the worlds first operational realistic (JSF is still quite overweight and oversized) fighter aircraft.
I wish to initiate a discussion on the significance and implications of that
First, I must say I was absolutely impressed by the R&D capability and innovative and open-minded spirit of Chengdu Aircraft Company, willing to take such a radical concept into one of its most important projects, that quickly.
Second, this could also usher the dawn of a competitive innovative Chinese aerospace industry, as innovation and change comes standard within that particular sector.
And lastly, I would say this could significantly boost its export prospects, as this would mean a much higher-quality aircraft aimed at a higher market, as the bump of DSI require very very high-precision manufacturing. I am personally predicting an aircraft of greater capability than the F-16.
