FederalExpress aircraft updates

Please could somebody supply answers to thefollowing questions

In the late 1990s Federal Express was reported to be converting former passenger DC10s to freighters, and updating them with a 2 man glass cockpit, designating them as MD 10 (?) How many of these aircraft were modified and are theY still in service

Similarly they upgraded 727-100s, replaced the engines with BR710s, and also installed an upgraded avionics system. How many were upgraded and are they still earning their keep

This week the Brazilian post office started its move towards setting up their own air cargo operator. Rumour has it that the goal is to operate around 15 civilian certified versions of the Embraer 23 ton payload military transport KC390. It seems Embraer firmly believes that there is a global market for this baby C-17 do you guys believe they may find one at FedEx? Here’s some speculative artwork. http://www.aereo.jor.br/wp-content/uploads//2011/05/C-390F_correios-580x429.jpg

Hot rumour is that the 767F (a -400 if Boeing will do it) or A330F are being lined up as MD-10 replacements. The A330-200F has already paid a visit to the Memphis hub a while back…………..

Surely them DC10’s are knocking on. Won’t they seek 777’s as replacements ?

There not DC-10’s there MD-10’s fully refirbished with Glass Cockpits! Yes they are operating 777F’s but Fed Ex’s Main goal at the moment im told is to aquire as many 757’s as they can get there hands on!

An md10 has the two man glass cockpit regardless of which model of dc10 it started out as. Fedex only operates the md10 there are no dc10 standard aircraft left in service with FedEx.
As far as I know none of the 727’s were re-engined with the BR710, FedEx marketed its own JT8D hushkit and most of its own aircraft were equipped with it. A handful of the 727-200’s were re-engined with the MD80 style JT8D in the 1 & 3 positions. I am not sure about the avionics upgrades, but I think they were minimal.

Fedex updates

Thanks Joe for the info.

Are all the MD10s in service with Fedex, updates with glass cockpits?

There are currently 73 MD-10’s in service for FedEx with 2 currently being stored. Hope this information helps.
