Isle of Wight Festival organisers defend folding chair ban
Organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival have defended their decision not to allow fold away chairs to be brought on to the site.
About 100 visitors were told they had to leave their seats at the entrance to the site at Seaclose Park in Newport when they arrived on Friday.
The organisers said it was because of health and safety concerns and to improve the “audience experience”.
Some visitors said they were furious at the new rules brought in this year.
Among them, Clive Woodford from East Cowes who said he needed to sit for medical reasons and there was no prior notification of chairs being banned.
He said: “I’m absolutely furious. It’s 175 quid down the drain. [The organisers] need to treat the public with respect.”
Tim McWilliams, Solo security co-ordinator, said: “Out of concern for the public, and to give the fans the best opportunity to view the stage, we have found that it works best to have minimum obstructions in the arena and we find by not allowing chairs it enhances the audience experience.”
Other festival goers said they had brought chairs in previous years without a problem and chairs were being sold within the festival site.
Seventy thousand people are attending the annual festival with Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters among the headline acts.

Can I do my own electrical work?
You can do your own electrical work if you are competent to do so. Simple tasks such as wiring a plug are within the grasp of many people, but more complex tasks such as modifying an electrical installation may not be.

ThreeSpool, I didn’t know until recently, you are not allowed under Elf and safety rules,that you are not supposed to put a plug on a domestic appliance in some cases.right?.

On a VERY serious note, last week I went into the local branch of LLoyds TSB, as I was in the process of buying two cars, and needed two thou out. “Sorry, but we don’t keep that amount on the premises, but you can order it to arrive in the next two or three days”. I asked to see the manager, and I totaly did a Victor Meldrew on him. stating I would close my 2 current accounts and savings account.
Cut it to the chase, he got a Courrier to bring it over same day special delivery.from a larger Branch.
Now as you all know, I am the last person to complain.:D……………………..but it’s about time we stood up and complained, but only when it’s justified, when and what did you complain about last, and the result?.

Elf and safety. Foxtrot Oscar, I am going to start a revolt against you lot, and the P.C. brigade, In all my years, I have never been caught speeding, (They couldn’t catch me;)), never had a parking ticket, never done any crime, don’t smoke, dont drink, I recon it’s about time I lived a little and comitted a few offences and became a normal respected citizen, if the crime I do is big enough, I may even get a holiday in Aus.:D

There is a picture in the paper this morning of two small lengths of sawn tree trunk in a road. They have been coned off, no doubt awaiting removal by someone in full protective clothing, ear defenders, hard hat and heavy duty gloves.

Its no use moaning about elf an safety, I am now watchind D Cameron on T.V. and he has just stated he don’t know why so many Brits are emigrating, I think he needs to see some of the postings on here to see why.
HSE gone mad is one of the reasons why the UK is an increasingly expensive place to do business, and which is why work is increasingly going abroad. The very premise of the HSE is good, but it has gone too far. What makes it worse is these American-style claims adverts which fuels the “remove all risk in case we get sued” attitude.

Nice shooting soldier! Those and deck chairs should be banned from airshows, at least from the front-line, oh and the chav encampments of around ten people complete with picnic hampers to feed a milion and a radio blaring out.
I’m kind of with the festival organisers on this one.
