A bit of a mix today at Newcastle! Allsorts happening, maydays, go around’s and the odd departure off 07 when 25 was in use………..
It all started quiet……..

Then a surprise to see an A300 Onur Air, I was expecting an A321…
Then we got invaded by the RAF, first came the Seaking…….
I then heard a mayday call on my radio from a pair of Tornados about 40 miles from Newcastle, one had an engine failure. It landed with no problems and the other carried on back to base………….

Once the Tornado was down a Nimrod took up the hold and performed two approaches when there was a gap in the traffic…………

To top it off another Seaking decided to join in……….
Cheers, Chris 🙂

Now was it just me or was there a Eastern Jet Stream parked civvy side this morning? Was the ramp full last night?

Onur Air been using a300 last few weeks on the DLM, BJV and Izmir flight normally operated by a321. Have also seen MD-80 being used and a320 from Freebird airlines.
Anyone see the Flybe go around on Thursday? EXT was on approach 07 and helicopter departed straight into its path whilst on finals, full power and away! Did a steep 360 degree turn banking hard and done what looked like a 1 mile final onto 25 interesting viewing!

i stand corrected about the OnurAir A321, it was used this morning.
they were taking of and landing on 07 and 25 all day today, the afternoon KLM Amsterdam departed runway 07 with an 07 tailwind
as for the go-arounds quite a few a/c did think the general rule from ATC was stop before the Rapid Exit or go around as i don’t think there was room at the 07 holding point to do a u-turn due to all the utilities surrounding the conked out tonka  after the utilities were gone, they were exiting the runway from the 07 end, i think the Finnair (XL) was the first aircraft that did.

Didnt happen to see at Mytravel A320 that seemed to operate a go-around from 07 then land on 25 in the afternoon did you? Came on a strange course directly over my estate about 1ish.
Funny enough…………

25 was in use all day with only a few take off’s and landings on 07, the Air France landed on 07 and the Cimber CRJ departed on 07, probably due to CPH being in that direction and virtually no surface wind yesterday so there was a bit flexibility when traffic was a bit thin.

Most likely incase the tonka had left anything on the runway during its landing. Airside ops would have the ranger out there sharpish looking for FOD. Also to let the fire crews to get onto the runway plus i think the runways switched yesterday afternoon any way.

Great shots mate, nice to see some others from NCL.
Noticed that that Nimrod and seakings have been in quite a few times over the last couple of weeks.

That Finnair 757 gets better looking every time i see her!! she looked gourgous parked on the ramp a few days ago in the sun!
Tis odd seeing aircraft i helped board. Had the pleasure of working with G-SMAN today beast of an aircraft.

Didn’t you once tell me its no cameras airside now for staff a while back.
Mate remote was empty when i left all that was there was a couple of harriers or tonkas i think.

i caught that aircraft pity didnt have a decent camera other than my crap phone 🙁
one thing did confuse me about that tornado that brought a tug and towbar over from the GA Side to tow the Tornado after attaching it up and waiting about 15 mins the tug left the tornade at A1? unless there wasent space to park it up on remote like they normaly do?
By: lukeylad - 10th August 2007 at 20:22
Did you catch the Green flybe logo jet Dash 8? Could have sworn i saw her.

Thanks for the comments 🙂
I havent been up for a while and at the beginning of the Summer season A321’s were in use on the Friday morning flights. The 6th of July flight was flown by TC-OAK. A300’s are used on the evening flights.

Regarding the OnurAir in the 5 months i’ve worked there i’ve not seen them use a 321, it usualy a 300, CRJ i think, and there is one other aircraft they normaly use not sure what it is though can’t remember.
one thing that always amazes me about the A300 and A330 is that a photo never give you the full impression on their size, when you stand next to one they are MASSIVE, even an A321 dwarfs a 737, it realy does make you wonder how something as big as the A330 acctualy flies, hell the A330 makes a 757 looks puny.
as for the tornado engine faliure, i heard the brakes went up when it landed as they airport engines sprayed foam around the front of the aircraft, there was all the airport engines, 3 local engines and 1 ambulance in attendance, as of 5pm the tornado was still parked of the right of A1 holding point, with the crew sunbathing under the wing 😛
