FG-1D FAS 201 no longer an Ukn Buno!!

FG-1D Folks:

Good Day!

We believe to be in this Jul 2015 deep inside the perimeter of things! Pic below is FAS 201 in the scheme & markings of c. May 1957 at El Paso, Texas. What was believed to be missing for number of years or just hiding someplace..it now emerges in the W.Coast, Northern Calif to be exact. More to come later! Photo via AEC. 😎

FAS FG-1D Folks:

FAS FG-1D Folks:

..originally. during c. May ’57 FAS intended to buy via MAP 15 FG-1Ds & 5 more samples for spares. Things changed a bit once they arrived at Ilopango & all 20 samples were placed on the tarmac on the ready line. All this, against the advice of the USMILGP to keep a smaller number on hand. By c. 1960s, accidents & maint problems kept reducing the FG-1D inventory bit by bit. By May, 1960 10 FG-1D samples were placed in long term “temporary outdoor storage” at Ilopango & the few surviving samples were sent for RAN services to SALAS of Costa Rica for overhaul.

4-5 more samples were later ordered for spares only. These samples, kept their US Navy markings during storage time at Ilopango. It’s also during this time frame, that a re-shuffle of FAS FG-1ds Reg numbers is observed. By Oct ’66 a mixture of ‘gull grey’ & dark blue samples can still be observed at FAS boneyard #1 (no -longer a temp storage area). Among the FAS FG-1Ds indicating Reg change were FAS 208, FAS 209, FAS 211 & FAS 213 for now. 2 B Cont. Photo via DPH ‘c. Oct 1966.

FG-1D Folks:

Good Day!

..so, what does the time-line of our suspected “Skull & Bones” Northern Calif sample Buno 67087 indicates in this July 2015???

As you are about to read, docs & photo evidence fm S. of the Border tend to indicate that this particular sample did not just go “puff’ fm the tarmac at El Paso, TX c. ’57-58,.. but that indeed through some logistic paperwork between FAS & its Washington Embassy in the US, fund$ were authorized to get it across the Rio Grand & back to Ilopango Airport, EL Salvador for repairs,… to include also the purchase of 4-5 more samples as spare aircraft for the FAS aging fleet. FG-1D Folks:

….so, where did FAS 201 go/move fm its outdoor parking place at El Paso, Municipal Apt c. May ’57?? It all depends who you ask. Originally, when we first began to inquire about its time line of events c. 2002,.. we were told by a poc S.of the Border that the sample in question was at Bridgeport, CT on static display. It turned out to be the right country aircraft but the wrong scheme & Buno being displayed. 2 B cont..Photo B. Baker c. 1958.
