At 11.30 this morning a short parade and services was held in St Helier to dedicate the Royal British Legion’s field of Remembrance at the local cenotaph. It’s small in comparison to the one in White Hall, but no less significant. Last year the RBL Poppy appeal in Jersey raised £135,000, this year they aim to double this amount. Apart from the usual Poppies, Jersey also issues a limited edition metal badge poppy (1,500) and this year has launched a limited edition aimed at the younger generation (1,500). This part of the appeal was emphasised by the reading of a poem written and performed by a young lady from one of the local schools.
RBL Jersey has also launched it’s own Face Book page and revamped website.
