I didn’t think there was a Storch in the film, but it’s been years since I’ve seen it.

For UK readers it is on (again) over Christmas.

Hitlers Storch

The registration of my Storch is GM+A1.

Any help in locating photographs of it in service will be much appreciated.

As far as I can remember, there are no aircraft in ‘Downfall’. You might be thinking of a feature-length TV drama called ‘Conspiracy’, which was made about five years ago. This was the dramitisation of the meeting at which Reinhard Heydrich laid out the plans for the Holocaust. I think one of the Duxford examples was used for the ground shots, and CGI was used for the one short flight sequence. (Unfortunately, the CGI guys put big stonking great swastikas all over the wings etc, instead of the proper black crosses. Doh!)

Storch

Hi all,

I havent visited for a while.

The Cosford Storch does indeed appear to be wearing the wrong wheels. Well spotted! Whilst they look the correct size for the MS 505 Criquet they are definately too big for the 156.

Original wheels are rare, being made of magnesium alloy. However, I may have a set that failed NDT for my flier. I have lots of Storch parts. If the axles have been mullered to fit the wrong wheels, I have spare legs etc.

Somebody will need to contact me if they want to put the exhibit right….

If they dont want to bother, the least they should do is paint the existing.

Mine is painted in the colours of Hitlers personal aircraft – codes recently applied ( but I cant quote them I’m afraid – anybody got a recent photo of the project?)

Keen to locate some period photos of AH with his 156. It will all make an interesting story board at Old Warden.

All help appreciated.

All the best

but does anyone know what Storch was used in “The Great Escape”?

There was a Storch used in a recent war film, I think it was “The Eagle has Landed” and apparently filmed at St Mawgan.

Copied and adjusted this very day, a squidgy little print from one of my uncle’s albums.

I can now confirm it IS in Berlin.

It went via Brian Woodford, and his collection.

I think I saw a shot of the G-STCH rebuild on one of the photo sites recently – Airliners.net, perhaps?

Did not KW end up with Patrick Lindsay’s MS.500 G-AZMH, so long part of the Booker scene – has he got two then?

Think you’ll find it went via OFMC to a museum in Germany as part of the Sea Fury swap. No flying anymore unfortunately, just like the one in Scotland. 🙁

I didn’t think there was a Storch in the film, but it’s been years since I’ve seen it. A gentleman claimed that it was the FHC plane, and I didn’t want to argue with him. Thanks

The Great Escape aircraft was a Bucker Bestmann, not a Storch. I don’t know which particular example it was though.

“Great Escape”??? Was that not a Me108????

I’ve seen Kermit Week’s Storch fly. VERY COOL!!! IIRC, a few months after that, he had the engine seize up in flight so he just gently put it down. Not sure if it has flown since.
