BELGRADE, September 18, 2003 – After an eleven-year break, passenger aircraft are once again flying direct between Belgrade and New York. At 11.30 this morning a Boeing 767 took off from Belgrade’s Surcin Airport bound for the US. Among the passengers were Serbia-Montenegro basketball stars Vlada Divac and Marko Jaric, and deputy foreign minister Aleksandra Joksimovic.
Transport and Telecommunications Minister Marija Raseta-Vukosavljevic said the flight marked Belgrade’s return as one of the most important transit centres in southeast Europe.
Flights from Belgrade to New York will leave every Thursday and Sunday at 11.30 with prices ranging from 390 to 690 dollars. Tickets for September and October sold out in July.

They recently placed an order for a couple(4-8?) of Airbus A319/320 aircraft, but cancelled it due to “lack of money”.
But only a couple of months later, news about Boeing building a large regional service center(where all Boeing airplanes operated in Eastern Europe will go to be serviced & repaired) right beside Belgrade Airport, appeared on Serbian government websites.
So, we can only guess what this means:D
Personally, im guessing that if this new line to New York succeeds, they will buy a couple of wide-body aircraft, probably B767, to service such cities as New York, LA, Chicago and Toronto – where a large number of Serbians and other ex-Yugo’s live.
yes dry leasing a couple of 767s will do JAT good.

I’m sure that JAT also served Peking (Beijing) first with B707s and later with DC10s.

HY is expanding rapidly. They offer the BHX_JFk flight as far as I know. THey offer transit flights to MAritsar in India, and they fly to JFK to allow indian passengers to fly to AMritsar from the USA. And it makes alot of money. My dad has flown with them , and the flights are always full.

That is what i’m suggesting, currently Uzebekistan fly Taskent-Birmingham-New York with the 767, at least I believe that to be true. Is this new 767 direct then or is at added diversion in the current New York flight?

Do these flights originate in Tashkent then?I’m wondering if JAT might be showing interest in a new fleet of aircraft if they are showing signs of expansion? Seems a prime candidate to me.
But really does Uzbekistan has anything to spare?
