I have just watched this film for the first time, fantastic film and so very different from the Dambusters.
Has anybody got any information on where it was filmed, what Lancs were used and were they the same ones used in the famous Dambusters film being flown by the same crews?
I notice that one Australian actor Bill Kerr in this film also starred in the Dambusters, though he had a moustache or today known as a “movember”:)
Regards

John Wooldridge was one of Gibson’s flight commanders on 106 Squadron. He also co-wrote the score to Appointment in London. A very talented man, he wrote a number of other film scores and probably would have gone on to have had a major career in the film and music business. Sadly he was killed in car accident in the early 50’s. His son and daughter are theatre director and actress respectively. His daughter, Susan, was in “the Jewel in the Crown”.

Three of the Lancs (NX673, NX679, NX782) were later re-used for Dam Busters.
Two others were TW862 and a non-flying background set dressing TW883, both
of these were not in The Dam Busters.
They were all flown by RAF crews but I don’t think they were the same as for
Dam Busters, possibly one or two pilots might have been the same?
The script-writer John Wooldridge was a personal friend of Guy Gibson and a lot
of his character went into that of the main character for this film.
I hope this is some help.
