Film query

I was just watching “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on DVD, and there’s a scene with a large four-engined flying boat with passengers embarking, and then a few shots of it flying.

Anyone know what it is?? Looks like a Sunderland, but it has four-blade props.

Looks like a cross between a Ju88 and a flying wing!

My girlfriend and I were looking through one of her photo albums, and the same thing turned up in it – but it never actually clicked to post anything on here!

This was taken at Disney’s MGM theme park in Orlando where they have complete show dedicated to Indiana Jones.

Yep, in “Raiders”, too. Think it was just a made-up kite for the movie, but based on the real German flying-wing designs.

Let’s not forget “Temple of Doom” with its Tri-motor near the start, and “The Last Crusade” with the Stampe SV4 and Pilatus P-2s done up as Bf109s! 🙂

Its the Short Solent “Halcyon” I believe, at Oakland California

Ages since I’ve seen that film, had forgotten about those Solent shots, isn’t it seen full size as they are boarding it, then as a model in flight?

I think you may be right with the Solent, Hatton.

Wonder whose it was?? In the flying shots, it looked far more realistic than a model, and “Raiders” was way before the time of CGI!

The one in the photo is kept at the MoTaT in Auckland, New Zealand.
