Its an interesting sign of how maxed out Indian shipyards are at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal includes the option to build further units in an Indian yard.

Local news (internet or magazine) said there is an option for a second ship and the first ship will be delivery in 24 month.

The Italian navy said this month that it is studying 2 logistical support ship (LSS/AOR). The choice probably will fall on something similar to the Indian ship or the AOR based on LHD proposed by Fincantieri.

There was a report on DN saying IN has ordered a tanker with an italian shipyard. And this report here says:

The future also holds interesting prospects for the company as Fincantieri has presented offers regarding two programmes on which work is in progress: the company won the international tender called in 2005 by the Indian Navy for the construction of a Fleet Tanker and in 2006 it presented an offer for the construction of another oceanographic vessel. Moreover, Fincantieri is closely following the programmes of the Indian Navy for a new contract to build a new class of frigate of approximately 5,000 tonne displacement and a supply vessel (LPD) of 15,000-20,000 tonnes.
