Finding the fallen

Just finished reading and to be honest, top book!

Personally, not the greatest reader in the world, however, the last few days, I have been sat reading ‘Finding the fallen’ with the winter sun streaming through my (new) window in almost total silence.

I originally set out to read a chapter a day but, with the easy to read style that Andy produces, this sort of stretches out to four or five at a go. I have always been a fan of ‘then and now’ and ‘after the battle’ books and publications, with most already in my collection, this follows that successful formula.
The period of history I’m particularly interested in is 1939 – 1945 and as four fifths of this book is dedicated to WWII, it does not dissappoint.
I like the diversity between bombers, fighters, Countries, friend or foe and the way it all weaves together to make a brilliant stand alone book.
It is well illustrated throughout with many black and white photographs, most of which I have never seen before.
Dont think you will read this, then consign it to your library never to touch again. I finished it at 2 oclock this afternoon and found myself re-reading chapter 7 ‘The finding of Lakeside Green Three’ a missing P51D, its that gripping!

It sits nicely in my library along side ‘Finding the Few’ and ‘Convoy Peewit’ from the same author.

A great boxing day ‘get away from the screaming kids’ or ‘great escape on the telly, again’ reason to nip down the shed amongst your aeroplane ‘tin’ collection and quietly read some history.
