Those in the area may be interested in a talk at Shoreham Airport for the Shoreham Airport Society on Wednesday 18 September on the subject of ‘Finding The Few’.
To be held in the Terminal Building at 7.30pm.
I will post details relating to attendance of non-members as soon as the information is to hand.

Did anyone make a “bootleg” recording or a transcript perhaps…for those many of us who couldn’t get there?

Andy,
Thanks for your talk last evening. I think a number of those of us who attended left with very mixed feelings…
Gratitude that you and your colleagues have not yet given up trying to resolve so many cases where the last resting place of an “Unknown Airman” can clearly be be linked to a specific name at Runnymede, but there was also much dismay (or stronger) that MoD seem unwilling to get involved, and in some cases seem happy to walk away from cases that can clearly be resolved, thus effectively denying relatives an answer to their long standing question “I wonder what happenned to him/her…”.
So very different to the US attitude which means they still have a team who actively work to repatriate their “lost” colleagues, even after all these years. Is it so wrong to expect MoD to continue to work to retrieve those who gave their lives for their country? As you hinted, I suspect cost has much to do with MoD attitude.
For any forumites who get a chance to hear Andy talk on the subject, I’d say don’t miss it.

No we don’t know the history but those young men who signed that all those years ago will not have given a thought as to what might happen to it, nor much cared I suspect. They had other things on their mind.
Perhaps it should be in a museum but this seller will not be the first to profit from personal items from the period nor the last.
Indeed the talk does sound interesting and I too wish I lived within striking distance of it.

Great shame that such icons of a war that cost millions of lives all over the world should end up on a commercial selling site, for a greedy profit.
I can’t comment on that, not knowing it’s history. Things like this should go on public display in a museum, so others can appreciate it.
Not into a private collection.
Sounds like being an interesting talk. I wish I lived closer.

Although this talk is this evening I am advised that spaces at these meetings for non-members is often limited – so best check with the Shoreham Airport Society that there are seats before attending if you are not a member!

I’ll bet the pilots who signed that with panash and style would never have dreamt that …..well you know the rest.
