RE: Finished
ah…history, always wanted to be a historian if engineering turns sour in college, well things like history of scientific subjects always interests me…ie, Einstein’s personal life, Wright brother’s family life, how certain thing was discovered, the evolution of theoretical aerodynamics, etc…

RE: Finished
Well I’m going to study history in Leuven, my goal is to become a journalist one day, but then I’ll need an extra year at uni.
Yeah, ok, school is finished. It’s so nice to know that from now on I can go to OCMW/CPAS or VDAB/FOREM and collect my money (just kidding). 😀 Anyone of you Dutch-Belgian (or other Eurofolks) going to the festival at Werchter (or Rosskilde, Denmark) this year ???

RE: Finished
I think another thing in Europe is the German/French/probably more languages term ‘Ingeneur’ which basically covers every stage of design. I get a feeling, it generally gets translated as ‘Engineer’, so it may be a fausse ami, like Preservatives (I’ll leave that to our resident French speakers to explain… }> 😉 ).

RE: Finished
Well, I also finished ‘high school’, so next year I’m going to university. Though I feared I was going to need a second term, I had excellent points for both chemistry and maths.
No, the only thing that has to be done is DRINKIIIIIIING 😀

Congrats , but I always thought that an architect was the one with the fancy ideas that make a building expensive, while we civil engineers have to do the work that the ideas really become a building.

RE: Finished
i see, thanks, i think it’s very different in the US. My friend is a architecture here in the US, i don’t think his math is strong at all, so that’s why i asked.

An architect is someone who also designs the builing, artisticly and structural. That doesn’t mean that he gives the real hard stuff like hard core engeniring away to special offices, but in essence he is an engener with an artistic view not the other way around,

RE: Finished
In the US, architects are no engineers. Civil engineers are the one who builds and design structural members, while architects follows codes and design the artistic side of an edifice. Or something close like that. So, my question is, in Europe is an Architect an actual engineer. If i even give you a simple civil engineering question like find all the internal stresses on you building’s structural members and show me where all the peak stresses are, can you do it? If you can, you’re also an engineer and that answers my question. Congrats anyways, it’s always good to get an education as it opens another dimension to make your life more meaningful.

RE: Finished
Congratulations! Now your real education will begin. Learn as much as you can from the old farts (like me), and always be mindful of the needs of the boss/company and you will go far. Best wishes.

Dutchy , congratulations!!!!!!
Anyway I’m a 23 years of experience ingeneer and it didn’t change anything. I feel as stupid as at day one.
