Finnish Hurricane HC-452 at Helsinki

Finnish War Veteran Accociation is celebrating their 50th anniversary at downtown of Helsinki. Hurricane Mk. I HC-452 can be seen rarery because it’s usually storaged. If you are visiting Helsinki on 18th or 19th August this year then you can see the world’s only (?) Hawker Hurricane with wartime colors on! I’ll only hope they remember to protect the aeroplane against the rain and sun.

Other things to see: Sturmgeschรผtz III, movies and minelayer at the harbour. By the way, Senaatintori, where the exhibition is taking place, is popular place for turists. I’m predicting many question from the turists about the swastika / hakaristi!

Didn’t see anyone on the elevators and most people were treating it carefully.

There were some people how didn’t know how to respect an old lady…

Wouldnt it be great to have her runnable?

Yeah. Just send an new engine, since the last one was kind of nothing ๐Ÿ˜€ (The Aviation Museum of Central Finland exchanged something for Merlin XX, the wrong version).

crowd control

Didn’t see anyone on the elevators and most people were treating it carefully. Would like to see her be cosmetically restored, have her landing light replaced and install missinf fairing strips and repair damaged fabric. Wouldnt it be great to have her runnable?

It was a pitty that no security guards were around. One guy even took photographs of his daughters sitting at the elevators!

Yes, of course. They don’t paint it over

Funny, it was painting it over that protected the original paint on the Fleet Air Arm Museum’s Corsair wasn’t it?

I think they had a bit of a job getting the ‘new’ coat off again though… ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Seriously though, what a fantastic thought – the original paint! Long may it adhere.

If it’s so original why dismantling it and transporting it. IIRC this is not
the first time the aircraft was taken apart and transported. Evertime
things are removed and put back small damage to the paintwork
is caused.

What an unique aircraft.

Cheers

Cees

The aeroplane doen’t have any permanent place at any museum (the same thing applies to about 20 other planes). When transporting only wings and spinner are removed. The Central Museum of Finland is trying to get money for new exhibition gallery but for the time being the plane is used at Finnish Defence Forces’ expos.

I hope they’re doing something to preserve the original paint?

Yes, of course. They don’t paint it over

Stunning! I love nothing more than seeing a “worn” warbird, rather than these polished Oshkosh jobs! :diablo:

Sadly that’s all too rare these days! I hope they’re doing something to preserve the original paint?

So the original war paint is on? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜€

That’s correct. The current paint was painted on 1942/1943 including a rudder from different Finnish Hurricane. You could actually see the original British brown under the Finnish green, blue and black scheme.

She does look really good.

But Peter Vachers Hurricane mk1 wears its war time scheme and that one fly’s, and i think Hendons mk1 does as well?

But it is good to see her out maybe they will leave her out now?
