You are always going to find thoughtless, ignorant people whole could not care less what the content of their video clips are, so long as they have a WOW factor. Not long after the Firefly crash I came upon a modellers forum, where one guy was up in arms because a beautiful aircraft was destroyed. As far as he was concerned the aircraft was irreplacable but there were plenty of pilots out there. Pretty heartless to actually say that in 6 months time he would have completely forgotten the names of the crew, but he would still miss seeing the Firefly. Needless to say, I had some choice words for him. It was most likely a wasted effort though because you can’t get through to people like that unless tragedy touches them personally (and I would not wish that on anyone).

Very interesting.
Thanks for posting aero 51.
On the same site there is another compelation of crashes, one of which is hoof proudfoot in the lightning at legends. Do the people who put these clips on the web not realise these are people dying and is upsetting for people who were there and knew the deceased? I just think its ridiculous that people actually enjoy watching these videos.
Anybody thoughts guys?
Yes, I noticed these clips to.
The first clip of the P38 crash I came across was someone’s personal camcorder footage when I typed in Duxford in the search box. I did post a comment saying that I was surprised that footage of a fatal was allowed to be posted, and flagged it as inappropriate.
A few days ago, the same person posted a recording of the BBC Look East report of the crash.
However, perhaps the sickest video I saw was a compilation of crash clips by some joker, most of which were fatal accidents including the Ramstein disaster, to some music. 🙁
Cheers
Paul

Pete,
It definately is Llanbedr, the mountains really are that close. The Fireflies, like the Meteor drones, were also often flown manned (I know this from a slide I have of the airfield taken from the rear cockpit).

Agree there dave. Dont mind things like the firefly as it was just the machinery going up in smoke.

I for one didn’t even look at what else was available there Ratty, I didn’t see that selection. I only had a look at the link as I’m interested in Fireflies and didn’t even know I was going to see a crash till it finally downloaded. i only spotted the title after it was all downloaded.
I agree that it’s macabre to want to see crashes, in the case of the Firefly at least no-one was in it.

I presume there are no AS7s (or whatever the equivalent drone designation) remaining? Shame, they have a distinctive look about them. Not too successful in the anti sub role or they wouldn’t have converted them to drones I suppose…
Big, powerful aircraft to land by remote control though. I’m not surprised there were some slightly hairy approaches.

Amazing footage, thanks for pointing us to it. It’s very sad to see that beautiful Firefly bite the dust
Well at least it didn’t have aircrew inside, unlike my experience of a Firefly crash.
Incidentally, were these drones controlled from the air or from land, I also notice a lot of a/c visible on the ground , can’t make any of them out though, looking again, there appears to be a Dak.
I had a sniff round Llanbedr about 20 years ago, assuming thats where it is from the mountains in the background, and was quite surprised at how small it was.
Thinking about it, those mountains, assuming it’s the Snowdonia range, look too close for the place to be Llanbedr, where is it then, looks like somewhere near Borth.
