Firefly Query

A few years ago I’m sure I saw a piece in either Flypast or Aeroplane stating that a collector had bought a Fairey Firefly in the ‘States and after an overhaul it was due to be imported to the Uk/Europe. Could someone please confirm this and reassure me that my brain isn’t making stuff up?

That one came from Sweden, along with a second less complete example, now in Lelystad, The Netherlands I think.

Yes, it is in Lelystad at the Aviodrome museum.

Apparently it is Aeroplane Monthly that was the source.

I pretty sure it was WD840 now. And was obviously headed for Europe rather than the UK. Thanks for your help, folks! (And especially Yak 11 Fan!)

Close Yak11, as far as I know it has been sold to a gent in France but is still at QG aviation in the US for completion, it is an ex Aussie Firefly I think….and rumoured to a very accurate restoration, I guess it will go to Legends for a visit once done, should be a thing of beauty!!

The aircraft I am thinking of is N1840 WD840 sold by Platinum Fighter Sales in 2012 and rumoured to have gone to France.

The very rare ex Ethiopian Firefly trainer (at least) went to France where SFAIK it remains dismantled in storage. I don’t believe that batch of survivors was ever in the U.S. so would not be the Firefly mentioned by the O.P.

Ex-Ethiopian maybe? They were in South Africa for a while but I can’t recall where they went after that. Possibly with Avspecs in NZ and Jerry Yagen?

I thought it went to France. Whether it’s still there or not I don’t know.

Sure you’re not thinking of a Gannet?
