First DSLR Shots – BHX – 30/03/07 – Crap Weather

Hello everyone.

Finally took out my new Canon 350d and Sigma 70-300mm DG out to Birmingham today. It’s pretty much my first shots with the camera. Weather was crap to be expected 🙂

Bit dissapointed with the results, but I say this is down to my editing skills mainly. 😮

Any cc is greatly appreciate, need to start learning how to improve, espically as I’m in Dublin tuesday! 🙂

All i can do is echo what’s been said!!! Excellent start! Great quality and sharp, and i agree the only real adjustment needed is an increase in contrast; but this is only to try to eradicate the effects that the poor weather had on the photos!!! Can’t wait to see the results in sunny weather!Good job!:D

Have to say I didn’t notice the contrast levels and the slanted horizons when I was editing…

Glad it’s being pointed out. Looking back at the images they do look almost ‘faded’.

Again, thanks for the tips 🙂

Theres nowt wrong with setting your standards high. Levelling included, not just for a.net.

Just keep practising the workflow, it will become 2nd nature!

I agree the contrast need a kick, maybe the levels sliders are not on the edges of the histogram?

don’t forget http://www.aircraft-photos.net best bunch of fellas on the web .-)

as for a.net standards! I’ve had an increase in luck recently but its still very much hit and miss.

Or those of us who pay close attention to all aspects of our work! Getting horizons level doesn’t make you a snob. 🙂

Although I must agree, Scotty, A.Net are utterly stupid at times!

Paul

You are quite right,Paul, of course, i was referring to the Horizons on Monkeys shots, which you really would have to look hard at to see a problem, but, A-Net would find it a problem….just love ranting about the double (triple, quadruple etc…??) standards at A-Net 😀

sort of thing only the screening snobs at A-Net would think mattered!!

For a first outing with a DSLR they’re superb shots, and I mean superb! Sharp, well cropped and composed. A touch more contrast would bring them to life a little more because the fog reduces it. Good things to watch when you’re making the darks darker in aviation shots are the shadowed areas in engine inlets and the tires. Just be sure to keep an eye on the low end of the histogram and try avoid the dreaded line up the left side, and likewise for the right side of the histogram when increasing brightness!) The histogram is the digital image editors best friend!

Again, superb!

Good start Monkey!!
Nothing to be disappointed with there, except the light, which unfortunately none of us have any control over:D No worries with the editing either, well cropped, only very VERY slightly off horizon on one or two, sort of thing only the screening snobs at A-Net would think mattered!! Good job.

Excellent first crack buddy! Very sharp considering the poor conditions you have. The conditions make the noise on the pic more visable.

I think with that start tho when you get a bit of sun you’ll be well on your way.

Look forward to seeing some more.

It’s called KLM having more than one flight to Birmingham everyday! I’m guessing the B738 is operating the late-morning flight and the F70 is operating the early afternoon flight.

Oh right I get you lol 😀 seems odd from a 738 to a Fokker 70 Unless the flights are not busy in the afternoons:confused:

Very nice selection indeed :).

Interesting to note the Brussels Airlines’ RJ has revised titles, removing the ‘SN’ and putting the new logo in it’s place :D.
