Yesterday the first Austrian Eurofighter Typhoon flew for the first time.
The AS001 (AS=Austrian Single Seater) had the German flag on the fin, German Iron Crosses on the wings and the “98+40” on the fuselage as stickers over the Austrian markings.
AS001 during Roll out a few weeks ago:
AS001 as “98+40” after first flight:
21 March 2007 – The first Export Eurofighter Typhoon, AS001 for the Austrian Air Force, takes off for its first flight at EADS Military Air Systems’ Manching site, Germany. Under the terms of the contract, with German Ministry of Defence will handle all acceptance processes on behalf of Austria, hence the reason the aircraft temporarily has German Air Force markings.

The famous danish test pilot Chris Worning took off at 11.20 h LT and flew the aircraft for one hour. One filter in oxygen system had a malfunction. To test the engines, he flew up to M1.7 and up to 12.500 meters.
He also attacked simulated air and ground targets; maybe to convince Austrian politicians, that the Block5 Eurofighter can also attack ground targets.
Before a beautiful landing he flew a Touch-and-Go approach.
After flight testing, AS001 will land the first time in Austria on June 1st.
