Fantastic pics John.
Thanks for sharing them. 🙂
Btw, out of interest, what did Mr Grey have to say about how it flew compared to the P40?
Cheers
Paul
He made some interesting motions with his hands like he was grabbing the stick and moving it in a circle, he said it handles different because it’s shorter.

I think you’ll find that most of the work on this one was done elsewhere, Steve.
Oops… 😮
Erm, congrats to whoever else it was then… 😮

Thanks for the nice compliments….I actually googled his name because I’d forgotten the correct spelling….but couldn’t find the spelling. I think I got it wrong. It’s Stephen Grey and not Steven right? Had a pleasant chat with him about how it flew compared to the P-40 and was able to compliment him on another splendid aeroplane.

That shot of the P36 and P40 together is fabulous, I had no idea how similar in shape and planform the two types are. Even looking at the P36 from the side you can clearly see how the P40 evolved out of it. Another big feather in TFC’s and Fighter Rebuilders’ caps!

Excellent! That would be something differentfor the UK airshow circuit.

That might be a little premature, Skyraider3D, as the photos were taken in California. Perhaps it would be a good idea to wait until it actually arrives before rushing off to Duxford.
Good point Mike! 😀 I nearly forgot about that! Well, it’s not winter yet so let’s hope she’ll be shipped to the UK sometime in the next few months. Although I suppose for flight testing the Californian climate is quite preferable this time of year.
Even so, might still go to Duxford… just to nurse my airshow deprivation symptoms… 😉 (…was just browsing through my Flying Legends 2003 slides and realised I haven’t had any of them printed yet!)

Another different shape for Duxford’s sky! The flight testing can be done in the better weather of the West Coast. It could only sit and shiver in a hangar over here!

What a fantastic sight! 🙂 Can’t wait to see it myself! In fact, I might not wait till the airshows start again, but visit the museum and hangars at Duxford this winter instead.
Lovely! Thanks for showing us! 🙂

Wow – looks fantastic! Good to see Stephen Grey in the cockpit.
Out of interest, has anyone else flown the P-39 at Duxford since Steve Hinton was here in July?

Stunning…. 😀
A big well done to Stephen and Steve  and all at both of their respective organisations.
