First S-400 Pictures?

While browsing pvo.guns.ru,i came upon this:

“27.02.07 Anti-air rocket system S -400 “triumph” will be apparently accepted to the service in summer 2007…… In the network on the site “oborona.Ru” appeared the detailed photographs of elements of S -400 “triumph”, made on 27 February, 2007, during the presentation of this system of military industrial commission.”

And here are the photos:

Hi Rodolfo , Good Question , Even I wasnt sure about the answer so I have put this question to a good friend who knows about this and the reason as to why some SAM have higher celing and lesser range and some have higher range but lesses ceiling is to quote

“higher altitude ceiling of SAM is limited by diverter fuel energy available (since there is no aerodynamic force available there). So for a fixed divert energy budget the range will progressively increase to maximum ballistic range as the accuracy of ground radar increase to accurately determine/predict the targets ballistic trajectory in case of ABM”

It’s kind of interesting to note that older SAMs like the Nike Hercules and SA-5 had the big fins as they were expected to manuever at the higher altitudes. 45km in the case of Hercules.

Can someone explain why small missiles 9M96E2 have bigger ceilings (30.000 m) than medium missiles (25.000 m)? This is inverse to ranges (120 km for 9M96E2 vs 250 km for 48N6DM)

Better gas-dynamics control maybe?

The system is deployed near Moscow but is not “officially commissioned” yet. This, ceremonies included, will ocur near mid-year. But the system is in working on a “testing-operational-phase” or something like this. The crew was trained during the whole 2006 and now is deploying the system near the capital.

Really? About two weeks ago AF CinC Mikhailov said that the first regiment will go operational i July somewhere east of Moscow.

Yip, you may be right. My Russian is in its infancy and I get tired real fast watching the daily Putin show on NTW.

The first S-400 regiment went operational about 2 weeks ago somewhere north of Moscow. Was covered in the news quite extensively.

TELs seems to be for 48N6 type missiles. If they belong to S-400 they should transport 48N6 variant DM. Strangely no pics referred to TEL transporting 9M96E and 9M96E2 small missiles (up to 16 per truck).

40N6 “big missile” supposedly will be added during 2008.
