That’s a really good vid. I noticed the aerospike being deployed a few seconds after breaching.

Huh ? I know the M-51’s actual range is highly classified and that 8000 km is a minimum (a French navy officer hinted before me that it could be more around 9000-10000 km), but aren’t you somewhat optimistic with 20000 km ?? 😮
yeah its a all composite missile with large fuel mass fraction so with a lighter payload it can do that , the M51 with 6 MIRV can do a range of > 8000 Km , with 2 -3 MIRV it can do 16000 km and with 1 -2 MIRV it can do 20000 Km.
Thats the advantage of having a Composite RV , put it simply the payload and range is inversely proportional , you can get variable range for variable payload.
If you need some technical info on composite RV and stuff like that, you can get a good deal of technical info written by Arun Vishwakarma here

the M51 is an all composite missile , with a range between 8000 km to 20000 km , depending on the number of warhead it carries.

Wow awesome , this is really the mother of all SLBM …………. the M51 is an all composite missile , with a range between 8000 km to 20000 km , depending on the number of warhead it carries.
The Bulava and M51 are really the most modern SLBM to be deployed on the most modern SSBN for their respective countries , both SLBM uses very high percentage of composite materials , giving it a dramatic increase in range vs payload parameter , due to high fuel mass fraction.
The US and UK are also thinking about Trident D5 replacement.
I guess UK does not trust French much for its strategic system , the US is the most reliable partner here

The European alternative to Trident for the Brits!

There’s irony. The French testing an SLBM on the same day they tell the US and Russia to stop their missile plans.
