Fishbourne creek stuka

Hello, can anyone tell me the individual aircraft letter carried by the 3/StG77 stuka that crashed into fishbourne creek in august 1940 and also the letter carried by the stuka that crashed at the Broyle, Chichester on the same day?. I understand that they would have appeared minus the individual aircraft letter as S2+?L . (L) due to belonging to the third staffel

thankyou
Steve

Scattered far and wide..even some bits scrapped…… may even have gathered some ‘cloned’ look alike items….such is the way of most of early dug items

Thankyou for your time in replying John and Andy and its a shame that the A/C letter is unknown. Do you know Andy if the Broyle stuka was ever excavated and anything found as I know the site is now under a road on a housing estate? also would it be possible to have the exact location of the fishbourne crash as you were on the recovery as I have struggled for some time trying to locate it from the photos I have of your recovery. This is not to go digging at the site but just to have for my reference, however im sure it was all recovered at the time. What became of the wreckage?.

Its unlikely they will know.

However, I have a file about four inches thick on this incident having been very much involved in its recovery in the 1970s/80s.

Sadly, the individual aircraft letter is unknown.

Try a phone call or e-mail to the Curator at Tangmere Museum. As they are just a short distance from Fishbourne, it is possible that they could have some knowledge.
