The flight in the lanc was fantastic! What a smell sight and sound! Quite moving when you experience first hand the conditions in which our veterans served their country! The view from the top turret was awesome! A definate must for anyone who is a lancaster enthusiast!!!!

Thanks Pete, that has certainly wetted my appetite!

I hadn’t realised that it also included a flight in a DC3/Beech 18!!

That does sound good value for 2000 CAD which is what I understand it costs!

Great Photo Twin Pioneer!
Any more post war lanc pics?

Like James said, you would be mad not too. Unfortunately the cost went up this year but how often do you get a crack at going for a flight in a Lanc nowadays..?
Yes there are small windows for every seat on the left side of the plane. However they are very small and one has to crouch down in the seat for a good view espcially if you are taking pics or shooting video. You are only seated for take off and landing. Once airborne you are free to go to the midupper gunners position and after a short while, you swap with the members who went to the cockpit. Make sure you take lots of photos and video as it reall is a once in a lifetime view from the cockpit!

The membership also includes a flight in the Dc3 with the Beech 18 as a backup. This second flight takes place shortly after your lancaster flight! Two flights for the price of one.. heck of a deal!
Oh and btw the lanc flight is around 45 minutes to an hour this may be longer especially if the Lanc is attending an airshow the same day as your flight!.

I know that it carries 4 passengers – can you tell me if all the passengers get a window seat?

You would be best advised to talk to the CWH for a definitive answer. The short answer is no, because it’s not an airliner! But, more importantly, you can move about during the flight (and you’d be mad not to), so a visit to the cockpit rear is possible (as shown by Peter’s photos).

I have been thinking of doing this.

I know that it carries 4 passengers – can you tell me if all the passengers get a window seat?

Secondly, I noted James’ comments above – and had a look at the CWH website – I note a “Lancaster” membership at C$2000 includes an “opportunity to crew” whatever that means. Is this the only way an “outsider” can fly in a Lanc these days?

My good friend the late Robert Rudhall had a record of being one of the very few non-crew to have flown in both airworthy Lancasaters; but then he was a journalist and highly respected researcher and historian. So, you can be nice to the BBMF, but I wouldn’t hold my breath… The Pantons will allow passangers in NX611’s taxiing, but otherwise, yup, that’s it.

It’s not actually that expensive. I came withing an ace of returning to Mrs JDK with a confession that I’d spent all my pocket money on ‘a great deal, honest’, but the thought of not being fed for the remainder of the month in Canada stayed my hand. 😀

Peter – first off, what a great time you must have had, good on you and well deserved given your obvious commitment to Lancs over the years.

Secondly, I noted James’ comments above – and had a look at the CWH website – I note a “Lancaster” membership at C$2000 includes an “opportunity to crew” whatever that means. Is this the only way an “outsider” can fly in a Lanc these days?

Thanks, Don

Great photos. I also am green with envy. I think a flight in a Lancaster is almost every warbird fans dreams. For me even higher than a flight in a Spitfire.

I thought I’d let you see a photograph, taken in 1957, of this aircraft. It had just completed a ‘Duck Butt’ operation to Prestwick.
Best Regards

Apologies for the quality……. 🙁

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Dad was on the flight as well for his 65th retirement present from work see pics.

On return to the airport you do a nice topside pass over the hangar for photos. Dad thoroughly enjoyed it as well. He fondly remembers the Lancs forming up over stockton as our local airport was Goosepool.
