Hi,
This trip went a bit like this: LGW-ATL-MCO 12/12/03
Had a great airport view from my hotel room at the Le Meridien, managed to see nationwide 767-? and Emirates A330, although there was’nt much movement on the tarmac at all it was still great fun just watching. One of the best parts of day is waking up and opening the blinds to find the apron filled with movements, sat and watched AA 777 from DFW etc etc.
Got to Delta check-in right on time @ 6’am, and already theres a queue (bugger), as we waited for check-in to open there were two armed policemen and a sniffer dog going through all of the desks and checking all of the passengers were ‘ok’. Then came the bad news, we were told on the phone a few days ago by Delta that they leave 20% of seats unreseved which are only available on the day, and even though we were there first me and mum still got stuck right in the middle of a row of five(double bugger). As we nestled into seats 35E&F I could only watch those lucky passengers in business elite sit back and be pampered with all those goodies.
My IFE was S***E, the stupid controller did’nt work and all’s I had to watch was the moving map for the next 9 hours (fun). On take-off I noticed that the centre baggage bins and fascia shook violently but apart from this everything was fine on take-off. The in-flight service was ok but the food had seen better times, I was surprised to see the meals served on very little flimsey black pot things not exactly fine cuisine.
Landing in ATL was great, we came in very fast and I just watched my mum’s face as she got scared (great laugh). As we taxied to the gate, you always get some stupid idiot stand-up and start getting there bags down. Immigration was alright and our bags came out pretty quick.
After we transitted to terminal A and boarded our next flight DL1421 to MCO, a B767-400, I watched the bagage handlers drop loads of bags from the plane next door and just amazed at the hundreds of Delta aircraft and felt a bit sorry for the AA MD-88 and the UA 737 & A319 all out on there own. Take-off was nice and smooth and we climed out of ATL immediatly turning south heading down through central Georgia/Florida. This aircraft actually felt much more light and airey than the 777 we were on earlier. Drinks service etc etc.
Landing was very smooth and taxied and parked next to a Song 757-200. And thats it, another uneventful trip(just the way I like them) by Florida Dude. On Christmas day I’ll be thinking of all my friends etc still back in England hehehehehehe.
The End
