Right lets see how much response we get from this. I hope it does prove quite interesting. 🙂
This is my diagram (below – taken me frigging ages! lol)
The red line shows the LHR routes for when they are on course for landing on either the 27l or 27r runways. From the moment they go over my house, they touch down at LHR around 5-7 mins later.
The blue line is the LGW routes i see from my house.
The yellow is the contrail flights that i get over here… usually from Germany, Holland and France, though we do get a CSA 310 over each day.
And finally the greeny blue line covers the STN flights we get to see, which is to say not alot. Usually very much off in the distance.
*please note i have not included any helicopter movements on this diagram.
I hope others (when you have time) will do a diagram off what you get over in relation to where you live. 🙂
As i said this could prove an interesting thread. Something different to do anyhow. :p

I’m only a few miles from Wanabbe Pilot so if I had a map it would be pretty similar. When Contrail Watching it seems mostly as follows:
SE to NW: Air France 330/340/777/320/319
BA Emb various/320/319
Olympic 340 Recently infrequent
Air Tahiti Nui 340 Daily I think
Swiss 330/MD11
Delta 777/767-400
American 777/767
Air Canada 767
Continental 777 Occ 767
Northwest DC10 Occ 747-400
Bangladesh Biman DC10
Monarch 300/330/757
My Travel Various
E to W: Aer Lingus 321/737
+ V.V Luxair 737
Fly be 146
Martinair 767
LOT 767
KLM 747-400
Lufthansa 747/340/MD11F
PIA 310/777
KLM F-100/F50
VLM F50
Ryanair 737
Easyjet 737
NE to SW: Braathens 737
Sterling 737
SAS Various
My Travel 330/DC10
Maersk 737
BA EMB Types
Stansted Arr/Dep obviously predominates here but there is also traffic that appears to have come out of LHR that seems to be heading towards CLN
comprising Far East 747s SAS MDs and 737, Finnair 320, Aeroflot Misc and of course numerous BA types………So always plenty to see around here.

Right, here’s my attempt… :p
The Heathrow traffic is very easy to identify. It’s the aircraft that obviously fly over my house at a few thousand feet. Aircraft pass over right in front of the house, bound for 9L or 9R at Heathrow. Occasionally, they will also fly behind the house, make a right turn over the house, then join the approach for the airport. When aircraft depart from the 27s, we do see a lot of traffic over us.
It takes, like A330Crazy, between 5 and 7 minutes from the moment an aircraft passes to moment it touches down at London Heathrow.
I’m not sure of the other traffic though. We get lots of high altitude action, generally flying westbound. Mostly heavies, but too high for to identify the airline.
Also, the red line is smaller aircraft flying south/southeast at high altitude. Again, too high for me to figure out what it is though.

yeh the blue line is lyneham and the central are is definatly correct well done tony thanks aswell
By: adamdowley - 8th June 2004 at 21:40
I get what i think is the flight path for Stansted departures, over my house in Colchester, which is about 30-40 miles east of STD. they reach maybe 7-15,000 ft. i get the majority of the heavies in the morning and the evening, and the smaller ones (mostly 737s) throughout the rest of the day.
Can anyone tell me by looking at charts whether the flight path is the STD departures or not? thanks

Not sure how helpful this will be – this is what happens roughly in the Swindon area, wonder if EAL_KING will be able to confirm this for me…

I usually get to see plenty of Easyjet and a few Ryanair 732s over my house. Flyjem have recently become regulars as have Monarch and Britannia. As for higher up, nearly all flights from Spain heading into Manchester, plus all MAN transatlantic traffic.
By: BY767 - 8th June 2004 at 20:23
I live under the flightpath for BRS’s runway 09 (ILS 092)
Lots of a/c in summer especially including all the main UK charters (BY, MYT, FCA, TCX, MON XLA) and plenty of charters from opther countries too (JKK, KM, A3, HH, IWD, FUE, LZ) using a range of a/c. We get all the usual EZY’s, BA’s AF, SN’s, KLM’s EI’s 3W’s aswell.
By: Britannia - 8th June 2004 at 18:45
lucky you Britannia your on the circuit.
It’s cool when the EZY’s are in the circuit
By: concordesst - 8th June 2004 at 17:35
Mine pretty much corresponds with Britannia’s, at this present time they are using a departure flight path that runs over my house, and lucky you Britannia your on the circuit.

On a clear day I see all sorts of high altitude aircraft flying over my area, don’t where to or from, most are heading North though.
Rarely I see EDI arrivals mainly, it depends on which runway and the approach path they take.
By: Bmused55 - 8th June 2004 at 15:43
I have the departure SId for rwy 06 from EDI going over my house.
By: Jeanske_SN - 8th June 2004 at 15:40
Oh yes, Planes coming from the north usually come over my house at abiut 10-15000 feet, approaching Brussels. There is also an airway that takes traffic for planes coming from Germany, Swiss and Italy etc going to the south of the US and SouthAmerica, ALitalia heads to the US, id depends on where the plane came from. For example the LH A340 is probably going to Rio De Janeiro. I can see them with my binoculars. There is also another airway that takes planes coming from the East going to Heathrow, which is foten VS A340. I don’t look with my binoculars anymore since I accidently looked into the sun and was partly blinded for a few days.
Often traffic:
Airways: Lufthansa a340 or 747
Alitalia 777
Virgin Atlantic
British Airways
Many more but I don’t stare at the sky all day.
Approaching Brussels:
Virgin Express
SAS Scandinavian
KLM
SNBA
Of course I also see the few traffic that goes to Antwerp, which is Fokker 50 of VLM and Bizjets. Also often Cessna’s and Pipers flying around, but where not

bmi-star no doubt the hawk this morning was from Northern Ireland routing back after airshow 😀
It bloody woke me up anyway! After a sleeples night that was the last thing i wanted
By: LBARULES - 8th June 2004 at 10:17
I am confused about the flight path over my house, dont know if Preston or anyone else can help, I get planes flying over my house a fair bit, but it only seems to be the odd plane. Like I see BMi Fokkers and EMBs a few times, and sometimes a Jet2 from Belfast (Once had undercarriage and flaps down over here), and saw the BGH A320 over here Sunday evening. Why do only certain a/c come over my house, and from random places?

Of commercial traffic, we get the trans-atlantic inounds every morning, and plenty of cargo props like the Irish Mail etc.
In military ops, well everyday, all we get is Hawks, Tornadoes, F15’s, Hercs, this is because i live in a steep valley, good for training. And RAF Valley is just over Snowdonia.
Had Hawks @ 6:40am today 😡

for feck sake how does this work?
By: SHAMROCK321 - 8th June 2004 at 08:33
LOL I forgot to post it
By: SHAMROCK321 - 8th June 2004 at 08:28
Not very accurate. They come alot closer most of the time as these routes dont get very busy so depending on ATC they will turn them earlier or later. As you can see when 16 is in operation I get great views of landings and when 34 I get good Takeoffs.
