Went to the RAF Museum last week prior to Fighter Legends with me mate, knew about the work on the Battle of Britain hall via the forum many thanks for that, about time it was sorted. Went into the Bomber Command hall and noticed that most of it was cordoned off. Chatting to one of the attendants he mentioned that they had a flash flood some 10 days ago during a very heavy rain storm. Rain water came through the roof and a wall of water burst into the hall via the doors at the rear and the volume of water blew all the drains. They placed sandbags on the doors but the rain was so hard that it shredded them. They managed to borrow equipment from Heathrow to dry the flooded area. The only damage that he mentioned was to some carpets, what a lucky escape.

I hope the brand new Fee wasn’t damaged, seeming as it’s right by the doors

Carpets are so 1970s. Me thinks they should follow other museums or indeed their Milestones of Flight and have tiled flooring, so if the rains do come again…

AGAIN? How many times does this need to happen before El Presidente releases some funds to fix the bloody roof instead of tarting up model aeroplanes on sticks?

Spooky,
Nature’s way to ensure W1048 is returned to it’s former resting place?;)
Or should this be moved to the haunted airfields thread?:D
Only joking, but luckily the damage was slight, and it will boost the local carpet company’s sales in this time of financial crisis.
