Flown stamp cover collectors.

I work in a letter sorting office and came across a first day issue stamped envelope which had been flown in the BBMF’s PA474 during an air show.

After looking at it more closely I read it was from the Bletchley Park Post Office. Nothing wrong with this but the picture on the envelope was not of PA474 but of the Canadian Lancaster KB726. The picture on envelope is the same as this one below.

These covers are bought by collectors and the Bletchley Park PO have had some good signed covers in the past and indeed sold out many of them too.

My question has been asked to the staff at BPPO but to date I have not had any response (most likely in their spam box).

Question – The first day issue flown covers in PA474 at an air show during the 90th anniversary of the RAF & the Bomber Command Veterans at Lords, why does the cover show the Canadian Lancaster KB726 & not BBMF PA474?

If you were a stamp collector but not an aviation enthusiast, would you be disappointed if you found out the aircraft picture was different to the aircraft that actually carried your cover? You cannot see the serial on the picture and as far as you are concerned it is the same aircraft!!

I would feel conned.
“Any old Lancaster will do for these mugs” springs to mind.

It’s also a terrible photograph. Apart from lighting etc. (Which can be sorted out very easily these days) the principle mistake of ANY prop. photograph is to freeze the prop. NEVER freeze the prop.

Check some of the covers yourselves here.

I would not personally buy any as the covers in my view are not top quality grade paper. As they say – “what ever floats yer boat”.
