Many years ago if you went to Manchester you would be guaranteed to see some rare aircraft undergoing maintenance at FLS or to stand corrected FFV AEROTECH, now adays it seems that nothing much goes in there apart from the Fed Ex stuff and tons of MY Travel (say no more).
Why does it seem that there other sites get all the good stuff and Man gets very little? I was lucky enough to have a look in there years ago and saw 2 Indian airways 737’s and a Sasher 737 undergoing maintenance.

Wilag the reason that there is tons of MyTravel stuff in the hanger is that it is now owned by MyTravel and thats where our aircraft get checked out. The 30ft MyTravel on the sign of the hanger gives it away a bit. (As you said say no more eh ?)

FLS are scaling way back on all their bases except Dublin. They have decided to concentrate their efforts here.Somtimes we get unusual things.Ansett A320 and 767 a while ago.AF767 and lots of SAA744.

different bases would normally be certified for different aircraft, depending on space avaliable and what certifications the engineers based there had.

I think they are generally cutting back their operations as they’re in financial difficulties at the moment, and this may be the reason for the lack of diversity. My dad works for FLS here at Stansted and has recently been made redundant as they have major cut-backs. Something like 450 staff went, all of a sudden. The only people who stayed were the night-shift people, as they’re still going to do maintenance for Easyjet’s fleet. Other than that there will be no other heavy maintenance at STN.
