Flt Lt Ken Doulton RIP

Over the years working at Plymouth Airport, I met a nice gentleman whose property backed onto the Airport. Some dinner times I would drive over there, toot my horn and encourage him to tell me stories of his times flying Spitfires during the war.

He flew with 616 squadron, which had at that time Spitfire MkVI (with the pointed wings) and later MkVII (a quicker version) in which, due to a fuel transfer problem he abandoned over France and became a POW. I got him to write this all down for my book and he helped me to correctly illustrate his own Spitfire.

I met his son on Monday at Harrowbeer who told me of his passing earlier this year. I was much saddened by the news.

Blue skies Ken, going to miss our chats.
