Flt Lt Norman Macqueen DFC

The Log Book some navigation charts and the DFC awarded to Flt Lt Macqueen were sold by auction today for £5,000.

He was part of Operation Spotter, the first Spitfires flown from HMS Eagle to Malta in March 1942. Although aware he had won the DFC in April 1942 he never lived to see the medal, being killed the following month, shot down over Takali airfield in front of his friends and colleagues.

Quite the historic document even if they aren’t Spotter pilots. That would be something to see.

Flt Lt Norman Macqueen DFC

Hi Andy

No details known on purchaser. Someone I know has contacted the auction site to see if they will pass on to the new owner a request to copy the Log Book.
Also sold as part of the lot were some Navigation charts which had been signed by 249 Sqn pilots. No details known but what a great find that would be, who were the signatures from? Maybe the other 15 Operation Spotter pilots from March ’42.

Any idea who/what bought the medals, Paul?
