A new airline is being set up in gibraltar to serve the UK and Ireland from there. flygib.com is looking to start operations in April 2007 using 2 leased Astraeus 737-300s. The aircraft would be wet leased but in fly gibs livery, which looks quite impresive on there website. This sounds like it makes sence as astraeus will be finished there leasing agreement with Flybe, who currently lease a couple of 737-300s from them.
Routes include, STN, MAN, BRS, BHX, DUB and ORK.
Will be interesting to see if this takes off and if there is a market to sustain an LCC from Gibraltar, I know Monarch and GB/BA have a number of routes out of gibraltar.
This does however seem more believe than some of the other start ups that have been previously mentioned on this forum. If however this operation will turn into a reality, we ll just have to wait and see.
Anyone else heard anything about this start up? 😮

I dont think many Irish people go to GIB. When we go to the other Spanish resorts arounds ALC and AGP etc all we do is give out about English people and the way the go on when on holidays so I think they can forget DUB and ORK its the last place most Irish people would think about going.
Yes I agree, what a load of rubbish this comment is. GIB offers another airport to serve the southern parts of Spain, that is the main point, it is not about passengers necessarily flying to Gibralter for a break, but instead going across the border into Spain. For some resorts it is actually the closest airport.
I’m not sure that they can fly to Ireland anyway, my understanding is that only the UK can be served in the EU, and then only be two designated carriers. I’m NOT certain on either of these points though, so don’t take them as gospel, I’m sure someone will know more than I do on it.

I thought it would take some beating on this forum as of late but its finally happened – that is the biggest load of crap I’ve read in a long time.
