Flybe breaks into Germany!

Flybe, one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines, today announces a major move into the German market with the first tranche of routes launched today to the German cities of Düsseldorf and Hannover from Southampton Airport.

This latest move is of high strategic importance to the airline as it pushes its boundaries and continues to grow across Europe, significantly increasing its destination base in the coming months.

Coming at a time when Germany is the focus of huge attention across the globe thanks to the World Cup, Flybe believes the extension of its destination base will support its steady growth in passenger numbers and will make a significant impact on regional air travel across the UK.

Twice daily flights* to Düsseldorf and a daily service to Hannover will run throughout the winter season and with seats on sale from just £29.99 one way including taxes and charges, Flybe will undercut competitor fares by over 50%* on both routes offering passengers a convenient, cost effective service direct from their doorstep.

Launching on 29th October, Flybe’s service will fly passengers direct to two of Germany’s most vibrant cities offering travellers a wealth of exciting options for weekend city breaks, or longer more leisurely trips to explore the delights of the regions.

With the recent upgrade of its Economy Plus service, business travellers can benefit from the option of pre-allocated seats and access to Flybe’s executive lounge at Southampton airport, as well as its recently launched online check-in service.

Located on the River Rhine, Düsseldorf is a key centre for business, home to many top telecommunication companies, trading centres and advertising headquarters. With a tradition in arts, culture and theatre, the capital of the North Rhine-Westphalia also has plenty to entertain the cultural traveller.

Hannover, located at the heart of the Lower Saxony region, is one of Germany’s most interesting cities combining the history and intrigue of Hannover old town with the lively surrounding areas home to beautiful gardens, fantastic shopping and a wealth of cultural and educational experiences.

This is good news for SOU, BE have got quite a large and varied route network from Sothampton, just seems to keep growing…

Good news but I just hope they can make them run on time. Delays are all to common at SOU particularly if aircraft that are scheduled to arrive late evening are unable to get in before the airport closes. They then have to land elsewhere (usually Hurn) leading to delays to the following day’s early departures which do take a while to recover from. It really goes pear shaped if the Channel islands have a weather problem (usually fog)

The first of the 195s should be in service by then so possibly they will be used – actually registered now as G-FBEA, EB etc – the Astraeus 737s are on lease until autumn 06

Flybe breaks into Germany!

And about time too…SOU has very little in the way of services to Germany, and it is fitting that Flybe is finally taking the steps to offer them.

Does anyone know what aircraft they will operate on these routes, Dash 8, BAe 146 or 737?

If these new routes prove to be a success, I wonder whether Flybe will consider venturing into the Italian market at all, seeings as there is little in the way of services to there also?

What other destinations would be suitable from SOU?

Overall though, good news for Flybe and Southampton! 😀

That aside its very good news, first German service for Southampton in its recent history I think?

Yes, if you overlook Paderborn with Air Berlin last year which I believe has moved to Hurn! 😀
