FlyBe commence LGW-ABZ (Aberdeen)

It has been known for sometime that BA are dropping Gatwick – Aberdeen as part of the GB shuffle.

FlyBe today announced that they will operate the route from the start of the summer schedule (last weekend in March) operating the service 3 times daily with an Embraer 195.

If they are going to hotac crew which base will they be from? As by looking at the timetable BE doesn’t appear to have an LGW base

I would think that LBA-ABZ would probably work much better with 2 flights a day, morning and afternoon. The EXT-LBA-ABZ flights struggled on the ABZ leg somewhat, but probably alot due to the timings of the once daily flights.

I hope that they do consider keeping / relaunching Leeds to Aberdeen flights, as since it launched 16 months ago, I have used this route 7 times. I would much prefer to pay £59.98 return with FlyBE 🙂 than £205 return with Eastern Airways 😮 .

Also looking at ABZ to (in next 12mths):

NCL, LBA, MAN, NWI & “key european business centres”.

Per Mike Rutter, hopes to have the LGW route act as a “bridgehead” to further development at Dyce.

LGW will involve a nightstop at ABZ with the E95.

Seems strange that after looking to drop LBA to launch EXT-ABZ-INV-EXT, that they would look to relaunch flights…perhaps looking to operate more business-friendly schedule.

Also looks like the much-threatened attack on T3 at ABZ, given T3 also fly to NCL, LBA & NWI, & flybe have already announced a competing direct SOU route also.

Interesting to see what euro routes they would look at…yet more Stavanger maybe!!

Also all these routes may add up to a base IF their plans come to full fruition.
