A Flybe Q400 (G-JECE) has declared an emergency and safely landed on one engine at EDI this morning, and that’s all I know so far…

What is the story with Flybe. I mean there seems to a Dash8 parked up at Aldergrove more nights than enough now.It never seems to be in a hurry to clear off in the morning,so surely the schedule must get all mixed up?.I wouldn’t want to be spending my hard earned money to find that my early morning BHD-EDI has been delayed by 4 hours!. Strange way to runan airline if y’ask me:p

That really doesn’t surprise me, Mark. Let me guess, you were supposed to be on the BE171 yesterday morning on JEDI? I was supposed to be dispatching the 172 which of course was cancelled. What day was your ‘attempted’ LBA-SOU?
Correct. I was booked on the 174 on the 15th. 😡

After 19 FlyBe Q400 flights I’ve finally had my share of debacles with them.
A simple LBA-SOU-LBA return trip…
LBA-SOU ended up being cancelled due to a “tech” Q400, so it became MAN-SOU.
SOU-LBA started fine, but after sitting for 15 minutes on the taxiway we returned to the stand and shut down. G-JEDI (the oldest in the fleet) went nowhere for the rest of the day, and once again I ended up back in MAN.
After missing my Dad’s birthday one way, and turning up 5 hours late for work the other way, FlyBe are certainly not getting my business for an upcoming trip to GLA!

I was on this flight and it was terrifying, It was electrical smoke/burning smell and it was through out the whole plane, at the back of the aircraft there was actual smoke coming out of the air conditioning units. The pilot shut the air con off for the remainder of the flight and the smoke went away, the plane got extremly hot and all the passengers couldnt wait to get off. At one point i didnt think we were going to make it it was that scary.

You have to take comments like these with a pinch of salt… Those of us who work in the media often refer to people who are eager to make statements to the press under circumstances such as this as having “X-factor potential”…;)

And I couldn’t disagree with you more, Old Git, you are picking up on one or two personal experiences there.
I willingly stand corrected – as the saying goes, a couple of swallows don’t make a summer.

I couldnt disagree more with your last comment OLD GIT. In my professional experience it works out at 50-50.
So your honest opinion is, that things like engine failures etc, are split exactly half and half between low-cost carriers and so called ‘full service’ airlines? I think not…

Fair comment, it’s only two seprate incidents of course but I was only refering to my own personal experience. I have done a fair bit of flying in the past 25 years and I have never had a problem with a major carrier. My sister also does a fair bit of flying on low cost airlines and she has also been on aircraft which have had problems but again with her she has never had a problem with a major carrier other than say ATC delays. Having said that, we are only 2 people against the millions that fly so I suppose our perspective becomes a bit distorted.

In Dec 2004, my sister and I flew on a Flybe Q400 from Edi to Southampton (I don’t have my logbook for the reg) but we sat on the taxiway for over 30 minutes at Edi while the port engine was constantly started, stopped and restarted. I even said to my sister that we would probably have to go back to the terminal but we eventually got going. Flying Ryanair Dublin to Bournemouth a few months ago on a B737 we had to taxi back to the terminal with an engine problem. I know all airlines have technical problems but it seems to me that the low cost outfits seem to have more than their fair share.

Quiet news day, not enough gossip from Camp David to fill the bulletins.
Heard of numerous IFS with BE over the past few years, including a few at Belfast, no drama and I’m not suggesting anything. Just an observation, they happen but don’t always make the media.
By: Mark L - 30th July 2007 at 17:11
Weird. I wonder why this made the news? I can think of 5 or 6 FlyBe incidents off the top of my head that have ocurred in the last few months and none made the headlines.
The wonders of the press…

Ive heard of a huge amount of Flebe tech problems aswell but the first time Ive heard of an engine problem, its always strange little problems that appear trivial that affect Flybe obviously this is a little more serious.

Shutting down an engine again 😮 Everytime I hear that FlyBe has made an emergency landing it always seems to be a problem with the engines.
