Hi all.
Just seen on BBC 1 programme watchdog that allegations levelled at Flyglobespan include crews working longer hours than CAA guidlines, Pilots offered inducements to fly longer than they are permitted, and there is an allegation that 1 transatlantic flight from the UK flew without full emergancy equipment on board.
It has also mentioned the fact that the airline has a very poor timekeeping record.
The above allegations come from crews……should we be worried ??

Well said Renfrew, well said.
The crew on the programme were obviously still bitter about getting paid off with GSM. [nothing was in their contract to say they would be offered permanent] It shows they would rather continue the slating of their ‘ex’ company rather than trying to find a new job. The captain in particular was always one for slating the company whenever he could, usually over the smallest little thing.
The Icelandair lease was horrific, even Icelandair staff [who flew on our flights as crew AND paxs] could not believe FI had given GSM the specific a/cs. Both of which were removed from FI’s fleet due to problems, and renamed under Loftleider. Their reputations within FI were very well known, and it is a real shame they were partly to blame for the reputation GSM have now.
GSM have shortend their flying programme for this year and next. The work going on behind the scenes is slow, but promising. Recovery will happen.
By going with the loads GSM are had, there has not been damage to the paxs confidence towards us.

My dear Tommy would you care to enlighten us all as to what “Boy Racer” style is? Or have you passed your PPL and CPL trained for years and risen through the ranks of GSM to a 767?
Maybe GSM need to do what Jet2.com are doing for next summer and consolodate there routes and gradully build up there route network then go into long haul if as a company they have the confedence and the means to do it.
For example getting there 767s back from Air India, yes leasing them out was a good idea dont get me wrong it will have acted as a good source of income. Buy having there own aircraft with there own crew doing there routes they have a bit more of a chance of operating a good service and been taken for a ride by the leasers.

flew the plane like a boy racer would.
What with a massive sub woofer in the rear galley blastin out da toons ???:D
I watched that Watchdog report and thought it was an over sensationalised pile of crap. Yes the long haul expansion was a disaster, but that was all that went wrong, the established ‘bucket and spade’ services to the continent didn’t get a mention nor the happy customers who have flown on their relatively modern if not brand new short haul fleet. Maybe they could have mentioned how badly let down GSM were as a customer of a certain Icelandic leasing agent, who appeared to have fobbed them off with aircraft that ought to have been parked up in the desert by now…
Every business has it’s ups and downs but I got the distinct impression Watchdog were on a witch hunt of “Scottish airline Fly Globespan” last night, I note they did quietly admit at the end the problems were being resolved, lessons had been learned and they even mentioned the recent travel trade award GSM had won…

The crew used to have a week trip to CPT. However, due to changes in dep dates etc, it changed to the crew having 15 hours rest before flying bk home.

Didn’t the crews only have a 24hr stop in Cape Town? 😮

When i flew GSM to Toronto in Jan there was a 10 hour delay due to a problem with the door and the pilot kept using his mobile bad mouthing company while on plane infront of pax. When departure came he slammed on a 100% take off power and flew the plane like a boy racer would.
Presumably you were in the cockpit then, watching the gauges?

If you were on a YHM flt, the flightdeck were Icelandic, and probably on the phone to Icelandair Ops as well as GSM ops. The aircraft was also Loftleider a/cs and not GSMs a/cs. The TF regd leased a/cs were a major disaster and distruption to GSMs flight programme. So the flightdeck had nothing to do with GSM.
