It’s been reported this week that Flyglobespan are to be one of the first airlines to get the B7E7, with an order for 2 expected! But in order to fill the gap between their plans to launch long haul flights from EDI and GLA in 2006 and the deliveries of B7E7s starting around 2009, they are planning on getting a couple of B777s! 😮 That’s BUY not LEASE.
Exciting times ahead for Flyglobespan and Scotland. 😀

Fly Globespan have more savvy of the “Scottish” market than some might think. Don’t forget that “Globespan” have been a successful Scottish tour operator for many years before they started the airline.
Their understanding of the peculiarities of the Scottish leisure market/weather, coupled with the demands from customers looking to visit their relatives and friends in the USA/Canada/Austrailia sectors, on similarly attractive deals as they offer on their current European services, will in my opinion be a success.
Let’s not forget that only ten years ago or less, the Scots leisure market was happy enough to sit on a bus for twelve or more hours to reach their holiday destinations in Spain etc.
A 7 hour trip to the States or elsewhere at reasonably competitive prices will never fail to appeal to the market in this neck of the woods.
As for the fleet… 767’s or 7E7’s yes. Triple 7’s I think is marketing talk.

I thought I was going to get bashed for my comments but there is some intelligent people here who know 777s wont work all year from Scotland.I have a fair idea of the Scottish market and I know that sort of capacity is to much.
However I do exactly the same thing everytime I hear something exciting about Dublin.
I wisf globespan good for the future.

Quite a big expansion(in terms of A/C size). Good luck to them.

the 767 can get off the deck from EDI with no restrictions too
The B762 can, but the B763 has restrictions if it were to operate full to say, West Coast USA, I think.

Currently, atleast until (if)the B7E7s arrive, the best aircraft to use is the A332 because it can get off of the runway’s at EDI and GLA without any restrictions.
B777s to me are just way too big. CO can’t fill them from Scotland to EWR and that’s with a hell of a lot of onward connections aswell as point to point.
