Flying A Services & Doug Arnold

We have all heard of the rumours and stories surrounding warbird collection accumilated over time. I remember reading a forum post a while ago about the remainder of the collection…but are there still some suprises crated up in the back of a hanger somewhere?

When you say “a few have emerged” does that mean there’s still a few that haven’t? 🙂

Yes, I am sure there are still a good few airframes in there, including the P-40 and Spitfire IX, NH238 I mentioned earlier. When I was there in 2004 there were a lot of containers, you could probably find out more by consulting the latest edition of ‘Wrecks & Relics’.

The items stored at N Weald were moved to Greenham Common about six years ago, including containerised aircraft such as the P-40 and Spitfire NH238. A few have emerged and moved on since then including TFC’s P-47G and Spitfire RW386, now in Sweden.

About ten years ago I visited North Weald and in the hangar next to the Casa (Spanish Heinkel) there were to BMW 801 radial engines in obviously recovered but fantastic condition. I was told they were owned by Mr Arnold.
Any info what happend to these?

Cheers

Cees
