Does anyone know when Flying A Services are supposed to be moving to Greenham Common?

The latest I have heard is that one of the main hangars at Greenham is going to be dismantled and then re-errected near the old cruise missile bunkers, the mind boggles at the thought of the costs involved.

Does anyone know of a contact at Flying A? If you do, could you send me a PM with the details? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it’s very pretty inside, nice gloss paint throughout, nice restoration but as you say not very stock. If you’re not careful you can knock all the little knobs off the transponder when you get in and out, I’ve seen it happen

Worth a look at the Courtesy aircraft site though, those look to be recent pics of the Wildcat taken at Rockford, may be wrong though.

I think the FM-2 is still at weald and at the price being asked for it will probably stay there

It is also not the most stock of wildcats

Lovely white cockpit

The Wildcat has flown on a few occasions, back from it’s European storage hanger to Earls Colne 4-7-96, Earls Colne to Bournemouth, Bournemouth to North Weald 9-97. Since then it has been run regularly. However as I understand it, it is now in America and for sale.

Hi Taifun,
The Flying A collection is made up of a number of aircraft which were once part of the old Warbirds of Great Britain organisation, owned by the late Doug Arnold. He died in the early 90’s and the collection was passed onto his son David and this was where the name change came about.
A number of aircraft have been sold off, including a Corsair and Hellcat to the USA in the last couple of years, and the Spitfire PR.XI which tragically crashed in France a couple of years ago now. It’s thought that they have atleast half a dozen machines still in storage, including a P40 Warhawk,P47 Thunderbolt (Razorback),FM-2 Wildcat and atleast two Spits. All the collection’s aircraft have been grounded since 1992,and only the FM-2 has been (staticly) displayed in public since.
This is the basic story behind the collection as I understand it,although there are probably a number of other folks on the forum who could give you more detailed info.

I’ve heard so many references to them here – what exactly is in their collection? Or is that the information that everyone wants??

Sorry if I’m being dumb..

Probably not the only things that are likely to be corroded to the spot at North Weald. 😉

No – but I will keep a lookout for containers leaving the field on trucks!
