Let’s create a list of flying clubs which allow free landings once the membership is paid. We may discover that we are landing so frequently at one place that it would have been cheaper to have paid the membership.
I don’t have any figures to hand right now, but I’ll post what I know as and when.

I try not to add it all up, hangarage now £300 per month (Divided by 4 thankfully)
medical now every 2 years at £120 each, or more and all the other costs that come along
Of course there is also now talk of compulsory radio usage, as well as mode C transponder, and pay -per -flight airspace charging. Fuel is not going to get any cheaper, and if it all kicks off regarding Iran/Israel and the nuclear issue, then watch fuel prices go through the roof.
The best solution to the gloomy introspection is haul out the aeroplane, and go flying, and remind yourself that it IS worthwhile. Even with all the hassle and costs, thirty hours or so a year is still coming in at around £2,000 per year. That is no more than average depreciation, on a very average car and I cannot think of a better way to spend that kind of sum right now.
Chocks away for 2006!!

… It is lucky us amateur pilots have limitless funds to devote to recreational aviation.
You too! Don’t you find that you have just so much money lying around that it is a real struggle trying to squander it on flying.

West London Hero Club at White Waltham also include landings in their membership, which is presently £275 per annum. It has gone up EVERY year in recent times, and it seems likely that a further hike is on the way when the new ‘Membership Year’ begins in April- It is lucky us amateur pilots have limitless funds to devote to recreational aviation.

Wysiwiyg: We love you and we know you love us, so, go on, be a good sport and share your benefits with everyone. 🙂
You’ll find me behind Hatton Cross station wearing a duffle coat selling knocked off Jet A1 out the back of a Cortina!
I’m sure that when I was a member at White Waltham (WLAC) the membership there covered landing fees. I also remember joining the Spitfire Club at Popham because it worked out cheaper than paying for landings each time I dropped by in one of my Luton Minors. Best freebie I ever had though was glider towing…superb unusual aircraft to fly with more landings than you can dream of.

I’ll be watching from my Office window (overlooking Chiswick Flyover), for a Chipmunk on finals between an A340 and 747-400 then….

Free landings / nav charges etc at Nottingham East Midlands for members… Membership cost £60 last year, so an hour of circuits easily pays off the annual membership fee (as long as the jets don’t get in the way!) 🙂

Old Buck is £10+VAT up to 1600kg, and associate membership (which gives you free landings) is £35. I’m sure Alan will remind me of the North Weald numbers on Sunday.

OK. I missed out one teeny little fact – what is the price of membership? That way we can work out how many landings you need to do to make it value for money.
Some clubs also give free landings if you purchase a minimum amount of fuel. Let’s list those too. I believe Blackbushe and White Waltham fit into this category.

Old Buckenham, for a start. North Weald too.
