Hi all,
Am off to Hawaii next year in July for a family holiday, we have a few spare days after our cruise to do what we want, so I was considering about booking a few flights with airlines that that operate in this particular region.
I will be travelling with Hawaiian Airlines when travelling between LAX and Hawaii, but only know of two other airlines…’Aloha’ and ‘Go!’
Does anyone know of any other airlines?
What would the best route/s be for travelling in order to get the best experience?

Unfortunatley, ‘Go!’ was the one airline that I was most looking forward to flying on as they were featured in Airliner World some time ago and I found the article really interesting…and as soon as my parents said about going to Hawaii, the first thing I said to them was…”At least I will be able to fly on Go!”.
As much as I respect your opinion about this particular airline, its staff and its operations, I dont think I can just let the opportunity pass like that, as I doubt I will ever get to go to Hawaii again in my lifetime!:D
Many thanks for your insight though.
The CRJ side of the Go! operation (operated by Mesa Airlines) is the shady side and has caused a lot of acrimony on the island and beyond.
If you want to fly Go! I suggest you try and get on one of the Caravan flights operated by Mokulele Airlines. Much more fun, and a little bit more ethical!

There are a few airline choices out there and as a US pilot I would ask that you don’t fly Go! They are a shady company run by a real @#$…
…I talked to someone who had ridden the jumpseat on Go! and watched as the crew didn’t run one checklist the whole flight. Don’t fly Go!.

I was in Oahu and Maui a few weeks ago. We flew into HNL for a few days before heading over to OGG for the rest of the trip. We opted for Aloha which was a painless and cheap flight on a 732. There are a few airline choices out there and as an US pilot I would ask that you don’t fly Go!. They are a shady company run by a real @#$. Their CFO just got busted for illegal business practices (he took some confidential information when he left Aloha and used it against them to start the Go! operations). I talked to someone who had ridden the jumpseat on Go! and watched as the crew didn’t run one checklist the whole flight. Don’t fly Go!.

I was out there back in April and got a decent bit of inter-island flying in myself. It’s so cheap, easy, and above all fun to do you’d be made not to!
The four main inter-island carriers are:
Hawaiian with 717s
Aloha with 737-200s
Go! with CRJs and a few Caravans
Island Air with Dash 8sSingle fares start from £10 one way including tax, up to a maximum of about £25 one way unless you pick a busy flight.
You have so many different options its hard to know where to start. I assume you’re starting in HNL, in which case you’ve got it easy. The best thing to do is to fly a circular route, so I would suggest something like HNL-OGG-LIH-HNL. You can easily fit in 4 or 5 segments into a day though!
I personally arrived onto the island LAX-OGG with AA, then connected onto HNL with Hawaiian on the 717. A few days later I flew HNL-JHM (Kapalua, Maui) in a Go! Caravan. I’d strongly reccomend trying to get into Kapalua in the Caravan if you can, the STOL approach puts London City to shame 😀
After that I flew the short 5 minute sector to OGG, followed by a connection to Aloha on the 732. I then flew back from HNL to LAX.
At the end of the day just book a route and stick to it. There is so much to see that you won’t get to do it all, but at the same time anything you do do is guaranteed to be a fantastic day of flying. 😎
Thank you very much for this information Mark L. Sounds like you had fun!
Am certainly looking forward to it, and whats even better is I will have a half-decent camera by then, so I will be able to take loads of pics and share them with you all!
