when is the next edition of that fantastic log due out?

Should be out in a couple of weeks, I’m sure the editor would welcome all proof reading skills, just look inside the front cover of the last log and you will find contact details. Perhaps you could just buy him a spellchecker.

Scully.

If you are looking for a career as a proof reader you’d better learn about capitalising the word ‘I’ 😉

Thanks Alexis, and Willow, you’ll be most welcome. Our next Convention will be on Saturday 11 October at Duxford, the day before the Autumn Airshow. Everyone that attends will have their name put in the free draw for a flight in the Mustang, with (normally) at least two runners-up getting a flight in the Harvard. All the pilots are usually available, and I shall treasure the memory of Air Marshal Cliff Spink serving the drinks last year 😀

I joined friends of TFC when it 1st started and left when they sold MOOSE. The log was great back then, though i haven’t seen it lately to see if it’s got better. I thought the convention they held was o.k but could have had more input from the pilots. I don’t know if they still have them or if the pilots are more in attendance now but that was my experiance back then.
I joined OFMC’s Tiger Squadron when they bought MOOSE and ruined the colour scheme and won a ride in the back of her at the 1st convention i went to. Tiger Squadron is as far as i’m concerned a better establishment, but it goes down to which interests you most. Also with the Tigers we raise funds for the charity set up in Mark Hanna’s name.

I seem to remember that Breitling managed to get OFMC to find accurate colour schemes which showed the company colour, ie yellow. This was very tastefully done, although the Spitfire looked a bit odd. I think the Sea Vixen has caused a bit of panic about sponsorship (although you never know!!). The Red Bull B25 and Corsair are both in very tasteful colour schemes.

OFMCs Tiger Sqn has a particular and very worthy cause to back, and does so admirably. I think I’ve even been inspired to join it!

It looks like I was wrong about the friends of TFC. If the money raised goes towards helping volunteer work then I am all for it.
Sorry if my obviously wrong thoughts have misled anyone.

To pick up on a comment made by bentwingbomber, what happened with the Corsair at Legends last year? I hadn’t heard about that.

Willow

P.S. Yak – if you’re being sponsored by Smirnoff then I want to be sponsored by Glenfidich please!!
Prehaps Moggy should be sponsored by KiteKat!! 🙂

Yes I do have an idea.

So do you.

It is a massive outlay for an individual

PS I was informed that TFC is self financing.

If by that you mean that the income from its aviation activities is sufficient to keep TFC solvent you have been fed duff gen.

I think I’m right didn’t TFC have no less than seven a/c at Biggin Hill two years ago and they used to take quite a few to France each year but as Grayfly has said the airshow world has changed alot in the last 10 years
How many shows can you think of that no long exist? for what ever reason
West Malling,
Manston,
Fighter Meet at North Weald
Boscombe Down
Etc Etc
Willow
I can’t believe you honestly think that the funds raised from the ‘Friends of TFC’ contribute in any great way to the operating costs of such a collection, I would think it just about pays for a couple of chocks!!
I think Mr Grey could coupe without the money raised from the friends. At least you get to see TFCs a/c and have the friends to inform you of their activities, which is more than could be said for the late Doug Arnold’s collection
BTW Grayfly do you get a badge!!!:D

Going back to TFC aircraft at other shows, the Corsair,Hellcat, Bearcat and Skyraider flew at Cosford in 2001 and the Spitfire V in 2000.

The additional money raised through merchandise etc is not much (after you’ve paid the accountants and tax man) and is used to support the volunteer activity in terms of tools and equipment. In overall terms it’s a drop in the ocean, but it doesn’t stop us trying.

A similar principle applies with OFMC Tiger Squadron. However, we’ve found it useful to drive profits into a fund associated with the company that is not necessarily connected with keeping the aircraft flying. Over the last few years, our members have raised a significant sum for the Mark Hanna Surgical Research Fund. This charity has proved extremely popular with the members, and is a very worthy ongoing cause. That said, had we donated the same amount of money into the aircraft themselves, we would not have made a significant splash.

Hmmm

Lets see, TFC’s P51, Spitfire V, Beaufighter, Gladiator, Tigercat, Bearcat, Sea Fury etc

All in Red Bull livery???

Now there’s a nightmare.

I think there’s reason to believe that sponsorship can be done with more subtlety. I’ve always felt that Breitling’s sponsorship of OFMC has been handled in the most exemplary manner. The Breitling badges are small and (compared to Red Bull) in keeping with the aircraft. OFMC’s association with Breitling has been wonderfully successful, and has led to airshow appearances all over Europe. I would cite that as an example of how positive sponsorship can be if handled correctly.

And regarding that TFC Gladiator – apparently that’s Stephen’s favourite aircraft (of the current restorations). He says he can’t wait to fly it. 🙂

Have to agree with grayfly and droptank I know very little but if you stop and think a little (a concept that is strange on this forum) A year to get the A/C ready dear dear I am sure grayfly would know better than I by a long way but count the ammount of A/C TFC has and think that they will all need an inspection (bit like an mot I suppose and a total guess at 2 weeks per A/C then you have got just a tiny bit of the year left. Oh and I nearly forgot the small detail of rebuilds.
I wouldn’t think that TFC flies as a charity what happens when one of the other outfits that flies for a lot less money blows a engine or something else.
On the TFC being sponsered by Red Bull come on chaps one blow torch covered in the logo of that sugar free c–p is bad enough I would think that Mr Grey would chop his arms off first.
PS I was informed that TFC is self financing.
