Is anyone aware of anything ‘out of the ordinary’ attending Flying Legends this year?
I suppose it’s too much to hope that ‘Princess Elizabeth’ will be ready in time!

chuck yeager: “Asphalt declared distance” is the area in which you aim to put down your Bell X1 after going supersonic if you don’t want to appear in an accident report.:) (It’s the runway length).

The Buchon flight testing is due to commence towards the end of May/start of June. RAC have been invited to take the aircraft to ‘Legends (along with the Spitfire and Hurricane I believe).

PS: I think that the Connie is the world’s sexiest airliner!

There has already been a tread on the visit of the swiss connie to Duxford. See this link:
http://forum.airforces.info/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23669
There is also a tread on the status of the Dutch connie:

I hope this clears things up for the connie-fans.

there is just a part of it they no longer want aircraft using for the time being.
Trust it’s not in the middle – otherwise multiple landings (within the length of the runway) should have been practised after all – not the elimination of same.
😀

Dunno about the Dutch one (still undergoing re-furb last I heard) but the Camarillo based bird is listed as attending:

Didnt notice a major difference between legends and IWM show display line relating to photography.

IMHO, the display axis (which has nothing to do with runway use) will stay where it is, and won’t move back to what it was pre-Firefly crash for a few years (if ever) for political ‘safety’ reasons.
I’ve heard verious comments, but again, IMHO, it doesn’t make a huge amount of difference, though I know others disagree. A return to the 1980s axis and approaches would be nice for pics (Spitfires landing ‘almost’ -hem- over you) but, rightly, are no longer acceptable, again for safety reasons.
Cheers

The notams (Notice to Airmen) is information for pilots published by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Although Duxford’s runway length, at the beginning of this year, was published as 1343 metres or 1453 metres depending upon whether you were landing eastbound or westbound, it has now reduced to 1222 metres and 1319 metres respectively.
I.e. It is still sufficently long to hand all the usual aircraft, there is just a part of it they no longer want aircraft using for the time being.
A second notam says these hard runways are closed from 17 Feb 04 to 30 Apr 04 17:00.
No reasons are specified and it would be presumptious of me to make conclusions. There is no indication of a change in the display line (which would appear in a different publication from notams anyway).
Black6: I’m not in authority, but an educated guess is no change for the photograhers.

1) “Asphalt declared distances
I donjt mean to be rude but what does that mean?
By: Arabella-Cox - 22nd April 2004 at 18:06
Janie,
What does that mean for all us photographers?
Will there be a return to the old display axis, or is it changed for good?
Regards

There are two new notams out for Duxford today:
1) “Asphalt declared distances”.
I don’t have the old stats on me to compare it. I’ll check when I get home.
2) Approaches to the runways are via Sawston and Royston now.

Good. No rush then.

The only aircraft to have ‘moved’ out in the last 18 months is Tom Friedkins Spitfire 14 and the Skyraider. In that period we have seen the arrival of the Hurricane so the balance is fairly even. from the TFC website you can see that one or two projects are very close to completion so the opposite may well be the case by July plus whatever ‘surprises’ they spring on us.
I understand the hard runway will be ready by then, the grass is still in use. Dont miss the show.

The grass runway, the choice of most the warbirds, is perfectly useable.

With all the planes that have moved from the fighter collection plus from what ive heard the runway unusable will it be worth the money?
