Again, Shaun, fabshots but I guess the “human” shots were staged?

Thanks for addressing the questions Shaun, I asked about the B&W becasue the effect you have looks stunning, almost like using infra-red film in the wet film era, the Lightning looks like quicksilver!

A fine selection of images

Thanks you for the kind feedback guys, very much appreciated. There’s a few questions there, so I’ll do my bets to answer them.
Grifffhawk, I situated myself in my favourite place up the Western end in front of the tank bank, managing to find a tiny spot on the fence where there wasn’t any windbreaks! Quite a way up this year, almost in line with the end of the grass strip. It’s a superb spot for topsides as the aircraft dive in from behind you, but was a little tricky for photography this year due to poor light.
Pagen, all my shots are shot in colour. It’s only when I get them into Photoshop that I make the decision whether to go with black and white or not, although when taking the shot, I usually have a fair idea in mind of what I want to do with it. The Horsemen pair for instance, I always had monochrome in mind for that one due to the cloud formations in the background. The taxiing P-38 was done on a whim however, initially edited in colour, but later deciding it would look better in monochrome due to the contrasting reflections. Personally, I see no benefit in initially shooting in black and white, there’s less flexibility later on when it comes to editing.
Danjama, yes I saw you went on a spree! Glad you like them. To answer your question, all flying shots were taken using my Canon EF 100-400mm L IS lens. The same goes for some of the static close ups, with the rest taken using a Sigma 17-70mm lens.
Foto4, I’m glad you approve, I know you’ve spent a lot of time photographing BBD yourself.
Hope that all helps answer your questions. I’ve done some more editing and thought I might as well share a few more- it’s hard to whittle it down having taken so many shots! Enjoy

Brilliant, went on a bit of a favouriting spree on flickr! Love your photos. I’ll rehash my question – what equipment was used for your in-flights? They’re exquisite.

Great photos, i like the b&w effects as well.
By: pagen01 - 12th July 2011 at 19:46
Can I ask Shaun do you take b&w pictures in b&w mode on the camera, or do you filter them afterwards? I realise that they have to be excellent pictures in the first place but you get a lovely dramatic effect with them.

Speaking of photos;
Anyone noticed the picture in the latest Flypast of Spitfires taxing out for their Legends display (in the Legends article).
Forgive me, but that surely can’t be from Legends as I spot jet fighters in the background 😀
