Hi, there,
Just wondering have the only times the balbo at flying legends has been
called off, the sunday of the 1996 show after the P38 lightning crash and the saturday
of Legends 2001 due to poor weather ? cant think of any other times thats amazing if true.
In fact I think the last time legends was affected significantly by weather was the saturday of the 2001 event.
Remember going on the Sunday and seeing those two grumman biplanes shipped over from america just for the show and they flew with the TFC’s
other grumman cats wildcat hellcat tigercat etc great show. I may be mistaken though but 10 years of generally unaffacted flying at legends, weatherwise, I may be mistaken but cant remember the flying being called of at all at legends since 2001 due to weather. any info would be appreciated
Here is a link to a report from the event :-

My apologies for the Thread title I used here, Yes it is definately about past balbos at duxford being called off not this years.

It has not been called off – the thread title is somewhat mis-leading but actually refers to past shows. I have asked the mods to edit the title as its not really helping anyone as it is…

Where has it been stated that the Balbo has been suspended? Certainly not seen anything from TFC?

Also was the biggest balbo ever at Legends at the 1996 show ? I seem
to recall there being 39 aircraft in the formation am I right ?

I think this year, in keeping with the nationwide frenzy of the Olympic theme, it should be renamed the “Bilbo”…

Speaking of winds this weekend; there might be some.
The May 2011 show at DX was held in horrible wind conditions.

I remember the saturday of Legends 2009, I arrived at the airfield early to find duxford and the flightline shrouded in Fog, omens didnt look good for the display but by lunchtime as if by magic, the clag dissapeared to give reasonable conditions for the display, and later some sunshine as the afternoon progressed.
Duxford Displays do get more of there fair share of windy conditions, certainly been to many of the May shows and been greeted by gusting conditions.

I certainly don’t know of any.
Sat or Sun 2009 was fogged in but by some miracle it all cleared up by showtime.
2006 (or 07?) had some strong winds. 2008 was lucky as another show was cancelled (RIAT?) and Legends reached max capacity. 2010 and 2005 was tropical and 2011 was so-so with small showers but good visibility.
All in all, pretty lucky.
Pre 2005 I wouldn’t know, but 2003 was yet another high pressure weekend.
