Flying Legends Photos – Saturday

Well I _finally_ got to see a Connie flying!, something I’d been trying to do for several years with no success. A very enjoyable show, despite variable weather, thanks to everyone for their hard work.

OK Propstrike 🙂

John BT was not to blame for either of the Sea Fury accidents in 1989/90. It was just horrendous bad luck he was sat in the front seat on both occasions.
On the accident at Prestwick I once overheard an enthusiast at a FAAM meet, saying that it was just a case of “the undercarriage didn’t go up or down, five minutes later he was in the SAR Sea King”

You are right about the problems with the current Fury VR930 though.
I do hope when it gets back in the air it stays there for a long time to come.

Stringbag.

Sorry that you deemed ‘silly’ my observation about J.B and his experiences with Furies.
I am not daft enough, or well-informed enough to pass any comment about the circumstances or causes of those two incidents. It is a plain FACT that that Sea Fury operations of the the RNHF have not been altogether trouble-free.

If I was in error, it was by making an unneccessary reference to a no-doubt traumatic period for those personel involved. On this, of all weekends, we should be celebrating the success of our fantastic warbird scene. I hoped for a safe and happy weekend, and happily that was the case.

Both Polikarpov shots were taken on the takeoff run Cargomaster, and I was stood on the bank by the Land Warfare Hall which helps a bit.

The lens was a 300mm (first time out yesterday, quite pleased with the results so far) so the I-15 was too high up during the display for me to!

How did you get such a close up of the Polikarpov-or didi you use a mega lens? It’s a small plane and it seemed a long way off throughout the display.

Lovely pics anyway Gareth.

Re the var. above comments – Not necassarily.

Good to see John in the air, and yes, John is ‘RN Retired’ now. Having had the pleasure of meeting him this May, I’m pleased to add that he was a very helpful and generous gentleman.

Hopefully he finds it less troublesome than Sea Furies. Hope that’s not libellous!

Slightly silly comment there Propstrike. 😡

One of the chaps on the RNHF stand told me that their new C.O, John Beattie (sorry, rank unknown- Lt-Cmdr ?) was flying the Skyraider today. Hopefully he finds it less troublesome than Sea Furies. Hope that’s not libellous!

All the shots that I have seen so far are excellent. I live vicariously through these, since it will be a while before I can afford to cross the pond and attend Legends.

I have to say that PL965 looks amazing!! The pink is missed since it was so unique, but she looks great in blue with the stripes.

Hope tomorrow goes as well, and I look forward to more great pics tomorrow evening.

Thanks to everyone for posting them.

Charles
